Nokia 6300 - calling party can't hear me - I can hear them

I have a Nokia 6300. All of a sudden two things have happened

1. When I place an outbound call a lightning bar appears in the top of
the display (can't find any reference to that)
2. The called party cannot hear me but I can hear them

I thought the micrpphone might be faulty so I tried a BT headset. Same
problem - I can hear them, they cannot hear me. Given the BT headset
(which is known to work) isn't sending a signal, can it be something
to do with the lightning bar symbol which I cannot find described in
the manual.

Have tried resetting the phone to factory default settings but the
problem persists.

Any ideas appreciated. THanks
