    Hi there

I bought a Nokia 6610 about 2 weeks ago and I have started having sh*t with
    the phone.

2 messages have popped up occasionally (randomly while phone has been on for
    over 36 hours)

    1) SIM card rejected

    2) Insert SIM card

Is this a problem with my sim card or with my new phone? friends of my got
the random 'insert sim card' message on the 6110 but this phone is brand
    new.

customer support is SHOCKING here in SA. not the ppl I want 2 deal with.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Steve

I get that one on average once every week or two. Considering how much crap
others are experiencing with their 6610/7210s I've decided to just live
with it rather than turn it in and risk getting it back with the bugs
    everybody else are having instead.

I got my 6610 brand new a couple of months ago with the latest version
(4.74). I have not had one problem yet.

I too have had this message come up a couple of times. Once was after I
accidently dropped the phone (not good!) and the others were out of the
blue. I just turn the phone off and back on and it disappears. I don't think
it's doing any damage to the phone itself but it is rather annoying...

Hi, the same thing used to happen to my 3530. Its some bug in the
    software.
I bought a 6610 2 months ago and it works brilliantly. It has 4.74
version software (you can check your version by pressing in *#0000#).

Oh btw, do you have more than 100kb free on the phone? I don't know
how its a factor, but its a MAJOR factor.
After I bought the phone, I had a lot of problems and error messages
with it the first day. I had problems like the games getting
corrupted, getting weird error messages, the phone getting switched
    off, etc.
I asked my Swedish friend and he told me that if the phone doesn't
have at least 100kb free, it starts to act "faggy" :-)
Well, I had installed a LOT on it and had only about 40kb free. I
deleted some stuff and lo and behold, never had a problem with it
after that! I usually have about 110kb free all the time.
He said his series 40 phones (7210 and 5100) gave him a lot of
problems too, if he had less than 100kb. His problems were like the
GPRS not working properly, trouble in the wap settings and bookmarks,
    phone shutting itself off, etc.

Btw, this problem was very common in my 3530 and thats one reason I
dumped it. Usually turning off the phone and then back on used to
solve it but it got tiresome and the phone had other major problems
    too.
The series 30 and series 40 software are not at all perfected, they do
have a lot of problems. Its sad, though, as Nokia's functionality is
    great.
The T68i, or any other SE phone, has never had a problem. Its solid as
a rock and can do take a direct IR transfer. It doesn't ever crash.
But I would never use one because Nokia is just too damn user
    friendly. :-)

Btw, I agree about the customer support. It's terrible, and not just
in SA, but all over the world.

My 6610 is working well. Better change that unit fast while under
    warranty.

Brand new or not sounds very much like a hardware fault. I would get
ir swapped out whilst under warranty

My 6610 repeatedly asks for the sim card and also randomly turns itself
off. Are these the problems you had? A new sim is a tenner from t-mobile.
I'm sick of returning phones to the vendor if it's just the sim.

I had a t68i and got "no access" on that a lot as well, eventually CPWH
replaced it with the 6610. Now it's virtually as bad

Get it upgraded to latest firmware and attach a batterypad.

It came with the 4.74 firmware which I think is the latest, I've no idea
    what a batterypad is though!

Any and all info appreciated.I've still got 6 months on the contract so
would hate to buy it out if it's an easy fix.
