the Nokia 9000 models. do they truly receive faxii?

Can one compose a document in an application (text & graphics), then
put it out as a real fax? connect the cellfone to an available scanner
and scan in a paper document, then fax it out?

do they have RJ-11 jacks, for plugging into landlines?

Don't know about scanning a document in but you can send and recieve faxes
    yes.
They don't plug into landlines, it's a mobile phone you know!

they were groundbreaking. dend / receive faxes. In fact, that was th emost
reliable way of printing a document you had typed. To receive, you must
    have a FAX terminating number

Out of curiosity, is there any way to configure a WWW Internet Access Point that *doesn't*
emit the fax tones when negotiating with an ISP?

    Hello, Darragh!

    Well -- I've tried to configure a WWW Internet Access Point with a Nokia 9290 (v. 5.07),
and every time I try and call my ISP with it, it doesn't work. So, when I called my home
phone number, just to see what was happening, I discovered that the Nokia 9290 is dialing
the number, and then immediately issuing those "fax beeps" (not the modem negotiating
noises, but rather the steady beeping every 1 second or so that denotes a fax machine).
It's as if these fax tones are confusing the ISP.

If you have any ideas/thoughts/suggestions, I'd be *truly* grateful!

those beeps are a two way process - the communicator sends the beeps to
which the other end responds with the handshake.

Where are you? More importantly, what network are you connected to?

    Hello, Darragh!

I'm on T-Mobile, calling from Tucson, Arizona. As I say...I'm surprised at the fax
tones -- as I wouldn't have expected that on a WWW Internet Access Point connection
attempt. If there was any way to turn that off, I think it'd help my ISP connection
    issues...

    Thanks!

    Hello Darragh!

I believe that I *do* have data calls active on my phone account -- I told the
representative that I wanted to be able to use WWW (and WAP), and they presumably "made it
    so".

T-Mobile didn't seem to be a dial-up ISP -- when I asked about it, they were pretty
evasive. So, I figured I'd have to use some other "regular" dial-up ISP. I had trouble
connecting, and that's when I tried just dialing myself with it. As I say, that's when I
discovered that the negotiation phase of the phone was also emitting the fax tones.

    Additional thoughts?
