What shortcut ways do people use to switch on the display lights on
their Nokias when they can't see the display in poor light but they
want to see if someone has called and/or left an answerphone message?
On my 8310 if I press the red button then the lights come on but any
message on the screen, if it was there, would disappear.
Sometimes I might press a volume button to get the lights on but
then I have to wait for the volume graph to time out so I can see any
messages on the display.
What neater ways of doing this are there?
(Apart from shining a torch on it! - Heh.)

I use down arrow then the top right button.

Re: How to put the lights on safely
put keypad lock on at all times, then take it off when u want to check, that
will leave the display lit up for a while

Pushing "power" on my 7250 will put the lights on and display the "Press
Unlock then *" message, when that goes away the lights are still for a
little while.
Its a shame that there's no way to put the lights on on the 7250 when its
in screensaver mode but not cancel the saver, its easier to check the time
on that than the top-right corner of the display.
Cheers

With the keypad locked...
Power button and wait for the "Press Unlock and then *" message to clear.
Works on 5110, 7110, 6210 and 6310i as I recall.

I leave keypad lock on, and hit 112<clear>, which doesn't leave the "Press
Unlock then *" message on the screen. Just don't hit call by mistake...
If you don't want to have keypad lock on, then I dunno.

Wouldn't 08 in the UK, instead of 112 be safer ?

I usually press the power button briefly, although it tends to leave a
message on the screen, so not really what you wanted. You could always press
it just before you took it out of your pocket so you didn't notice it... ;-)
