can anyone comment on this before i try it?

    cheers.......Ian

Imagine your hp battery is low, and you are receiving an important
call, but what a luck, you don't have a charger! Don't despair.
Do you know that all Nokia phone comes with reserve battery. They do!
To activate, just key "*3370#" on your hp and your cell will
restart with this reserve and your battery icon bar will show a 50%
incerase in battery. This reserve will be charged when you charge your hp
    next

Yeah, Nokia decided it would be a good idea to weigh their phones down
with extra batteries that the customer couldn't use.

good man, that was as useful as being poked in the eye with a pointed
    stick.

its *probably* a way to reduce the number of effective bits in the data
converters (ADC/DAC), which will give reduced spech quality and hence
reduce power. ie, its not giving you more battery, but reducing the
amount of battery used on subsequent calls.

I'm curious if anyone had tried this.

EFR (Enhanced Full Rate) Codec will decrease your talk time by about
5% (if it even works at all), the code you supplied certainly won't

    try

*#3370# to activate it or *#3370* to deactivate it.

Another you may be interested in are Half Rate Codec which may (again
if it works) increase your talktime when activated at the cost of
    line quality.

*#4720# to activate and *#4720* to deactivate

NB. Even if the above does work it only affects talk time, not
standby time. (and neither uses a reserve battery ).

    > I'm curious if anyone had tried this.

You have your phone, what's wrong with simply trying it out.

there is no such thing as a reserve battery in a nokia. only 1 or 2
    batteries in any nokia,
1 = one main battery (the usual one)
2= one main and one internal (on PCB) RTC battery

Which codec is the default, and how do you return to it after trying the
    enhanced and half-rate versions?

I don't have a clue but I'd imagine both enhanced full rate and half
rate codecs are disabled by default.

Instructions given supplied both enabling (activate) and disabling
    (deactivate) codes.

    Re: nokia battery reserve

the 3310 (i have 2 - the original type and 3315) has backup capacitor that
lasts for 5 seconds after battery is pulled out...same case with u i guess?

    | It was the case on my 5130, not on my 3310, and neither doesn't seem with
    my
    | brother's 3510i.

    | > OT: >>>>>>>>speaking of which, my 9210 date goes to 2002 but the time is

    | Well, my 3310 seems to have a backup capacitor, as I can remove the
    battery
    | and put it back and it keeps the date / time information, but not always.
    | I've set the automatic date / time setup, but doesn't seem to work.

    | Mmm, I don't need 5 secs to plug the cable & put battery back. Perhaps it
    | suffers from a capacitor drift. Never mind, I'll keep the 3310 anyway :-)
    | And for those RTC batteries or caps, it reinforces me in the idea that the
    | 51 series were one of their better phones ever...
    |
definitely....i am NOT gonna get another 3 series ever

    Hi,

    > definitely....i am NOT gonna get another 3 series ever

Well, the 33xx series aren't that bad : just "where the f*ck should I plug
the cable", "why do date & time reset itself when I remove battery"... at
least, LCDs can be changed easily :-)

LCD is easy to change cos 3310 screens go bad just 2 days after end of
    warranty

only thing good: you can change the xpress on covers!! ehhehehe
