USB IrDA connectivity problem with Nokia 6610

Help! Help!

I have Sigma Tel USB IrDA Dongle and can't make my 6610 communicate
with it! The USB Dongle is OK because It can communicate with Samsung
SGH-S500. The operating system is Win XP and the problem is that when
I activate IrDA connectivity on Nokia ( the phone is positioned in
front of USB dongle within 3 inches ) after the message that "a new
computer is nearby" indicating a Nokia 7210, with a delay of about 10
seconds a message "Wireless link interrupted: Your link is either
blocked or the device has been moved out of range" appears. Of course
that nothing is standing between the phone and the dongle, and that
neither the phone or the dongle had changed their positions. I have
installed the Nokia IrDA modem drivers manualy ( as it stands in Nokia
PC Suite 5.1 troubleshooting - under the Win XP ) but it didn't help.
I have also downloaded drivers from Nokia's pages but it made no
difference, as well as lowering the transfer speed of the dongle to
115200 ( altough the communication with the samsung S500 did no
problems at the speed of 4000000 ). The installation of new drivers
for the dongle from the Sigma Tel site also did not help.

If anyone had such a problem and has a solution I would appreciate it!

I've had *exactly* the same problem with my Nokia phones and this dongle. I
have the V6102F version (as printed on the sticker on the bottom of the
dongle). I found that setting the version to "Vishay 6101E" in the "Infrared
Transceiver Type" in the settings and the maximum speed to 115200 in the
Speed Enable bit fixed the problem for me.

Let us know if this works.

Adam

Wow. I have been struggling with this same problem for almost a year: On
my Win2K laptop, the SigmaTel USB IrDA adapter has worked flawlessly for
hotsyncing to my Palm, but it would not hold a connection to my Nokia
7210. I doubted it was a hardware issue, because I had no trouble getting
the Palm and the Nokia 7210 to communicate with each other. Even so, I
had no luck getting the Nokia 7210 and the laptop/IrDA adapter to work for
more than a few seconds.

I tried playing with the settings many times, but I never apparently hit
upon the magic combination of "Vishay 6101E" and "115200." Now I can
finally get my laptop and Nokia 7210 to talk to each other. Thanks!

I had this problem and doing the following fixed my problems with
connections to Nokia phones:

Download the latest drivers from:

http://www.sigmatel.com/drivers.htm#ir-support

In Control Panel, System, etc...

Change settings for: USB-IrDA Adapter to the following:

IRDA Transceiver Type: Sigmatel 4000
Min. Turn-Around Time: 1.0mS (DEFAULT)
Speed Enable: 115200

Thats it, should work ok. Has done for me using Windows 2000 and
Windows XP Pro with a Nokia 6610 (my current phone), 8310, 6800,
7250i, 5210 etc..

I have a Nokia 6100, tried almost everything (including what you
state above) but can't make it work.
The error I get is something like this: "Inalambric device was
sending data to another machine. No valid data." (I get the
message in spanish, so this could be not an exact translation
for sure)
The option I have is "Vishay TFD" and I have the drivers
updated (from Sigmatel site) in win2k.

Any ideas?

Regards,
ac.-
