I can't comment on that particular model, but many people use many different
USB IR dongles with PC Suite and their Nokia's - me included.
How cheap is cheap? You can pick up good quality ones brand new for £20.
A serial connector lead had the advantage that it doesn't suffer from some
of the problems associated with IR, such as getting it to work, various
settings, line of sight, etc. Similar prices. But unless you have one of the
new Nokia's with the new standard of port on it you might have to buy a
different lead for your next phone.
Your IR dongle can of course be used with other devices too, such as your
Palm, Psion, Laptop, DigiCam, etc - if they have IR.

cheapest i've seen is £18
but i use my leptop it has ir built in it
