    Hi,

Have been trying to connect a USB Infrared port to my laptop, Compaq
Athlon Evo N115. Problem is that Windows XP´s control panel doesnt
recognize it as an IR port, I can find the name if the device under
USBunits. Have installed all drives and software (incl Nokia PC
suite). The instructions tells me to find in the control panel an
option called Infra red devices, but it is not existent. Anyone able
    to help me? Thank you!

Infrared devices do appear in the control panel. If you switch Control Panel
into "Classic View" (if it's not already) so that you can see the "System"
icon. Double click the system icon, select the "Hardware" tab, then click
the "Device Manager" button. If the hardware is there it will be listed
under "Infrared Devices". If this entry is not in this alphabetical list
then your hardware has not been detected. You would need to contact Compaq's
technical support or the shop where you bought it or look on Compaq's
website for a driver. See if there are any "unknown devices" listed, or if
you infrared device has a yellow "i" next to it giving a reason why it's not
    working.

It may also be switched off in the BIOS. You usually hold down a key a few
seconds after switching your laptop on to get into the BIOS... usually F1.
