I've just received my first cell phone, and I've googled all around as
well as dejaed, but I have a few questions that I would like the
    answers to, if possible.

    Phone:
    Nokia 6800 from AT&T

    Firmware check results:
    4.17
    17-4-3
    NCB-9
    (c) NMP.

I have already unlocked it (checked with a SIM from two different
T-Mobile SIM cards), and I'm finding that the IR port is a bit of a
    bother to use every time.

    Ring tones-
There appears to be a size limit on ring tones of 10K. Is this a
    hardware or software limitation?

    Datacable-
The only cables I've seen that are M and F bus are available online
from the UK (I am in the USA). While I have no problem ordering from
across the pond, I'm impatient and 'thrifty' (read: I don't want to
wait for the cable to be shipped and I don't want to pay international
    shipping if possible).

Are there any companies in the USA that carry the cable I'm after?
I know there are many smaller shops that carry cell phone kit in my
local area (Beaverton, Oregon), but I doubt many, if any, would have
    the cables.

Also, is it even worth it to get one? What does a M/F bus cable
really offer over the IR connection?

    Thank you for reading!

True. But what abilities do I loose with an IR connection vs the
serial cable? (I'm a geek and interested in 'tweeking' the phone as
much as possible, and no, not activities like cloneing the phone)

I saw the serial to PS/2 connectors at activemobile.com, coupled with
the correct PS/2 to phone plug. This would allow me to use different
phones and still have the capabilities that a serial cable has over a
bog standard IR connection (whatever those may be), correct?
