Hi everyone,
My 8310 has started locking up occasionally ( I see a few other posts
similar to this ! ) and so I went into my local CPW store to find out what
was required to fix this.
I can get the FW upgraded, but they say the phone will be away for a minimum
of a week! I understood it should be more a while you wait thing, or at
best a day or so.
So, I have a data cable here - is this something that I can do myself, and
if so, where can I find a walkthrough of what I need and how to do it?
Also, how do I check which FW I currently have? CPW guy quickly checked and
sait it was out of date, but I don't know which version I have here.
Thanks.
Dave.

If it's still under warranty, find your nearest Nokia repair centre (can be
found on the Nokia site) and they'll do it while you wait. The only catch is
that you have to become a member of Club Nokia first - it's free to join
though.

.... I'm not a Club Nokia member, and i've had three different phones
reflashed at my local NCC, at diff times, no questions asked.

Hi Mike,
Yup - still under warranty, and I'm a CN member. Took it into my local CPW
who said they'd only send it away to Nokia, take about 2 weeks. I said would
their Glasgow Repair Centre be able to do it - yes, he said. It'd take about
6 days.
I've dealt with the Glasgow RC before - utter, utter s**t. That's why I
asked here if it's doable from home.

Thanks,
Am I thick? I see here that he describes what FW does, but seems to state
that he won't give any info on how to do it.
So, any idea where can I find the latest FW version for my 8310? Currently
running V5.06, but want to update it.I see some sites charge for it, but I'd
have thought it was free.
Thanks.
Dave.

Naw, you're not thick. This is a "release note" of what bugs are
fixed.
My FW is 5.54, I think Martin claims the final FW to be 6.20 (IIRC)
The bug fixes between the two don't really affect how I use my 8310,
So I'm not going to bother with the upgrade.
As to reflashing, for the £15 it costs, I get my local Nokia service
centre to do it
(for phones over 1 year old) Nokia really shoud supply bug fixes for
free, as it is their
cockup thats being fixed, but thats a whole different thread :-)

Naw? You Scottish?
Thanks for the info, I'm definitely getting the shutdown during SMS problem
so a FW upgrade is due.
I had wanted Nokia to fdo this, but like I said in the OP it'd take the
local CPW repair centre 6 days to do this!
