new phone - do I need to unlock?

After listening to advice here, I've just bought a 6100 on eBay. The
description says it's currently on T-Mobile, but can be unlocked.

My current phone is also on T-Mobile, and I simply want to transfer the sim
to the new phone. Am I right in thinking that because the network is the
same, this will be a straightforward operation, and won't require unlocking?
