Re: Nokia 7700!
WTF?!? What a damn weird looking thing.
Nice specs, but I think I'll stick to a palm for media and pim stuff (or a
tapwave). And my magical powers of scepticism tell me that the "10-11 days"
of standby time are hopelessly optimistic (the downside of combining pim,
media player, and phone).

no way will anything with a colour screen last that long, unless it's got
several batteries.
Why on earth are they putting out so many EDGE devices? there is no point
pushing EDGE over 3G. EDGE is not enough of a speed increase over GPRS to
warrant buying a new device, which given contract limitations people will be
stuck with it for at least a year. Nokia have still not announced any 3G
devices. I think they are trying to do what they did with the 33XX series -
keep people back in the dark ages but give them something pretty to look at.
If it wasn't for that dark period, we could all have had 100% 3G coverage
and usable handsets a year ago.
At least they have woken up to bluetooth a bit more, but given Nokia's past
experiences this is also highly dubious - what have they messed up now?
there are a lot more BT devices out there for them to have built in
incompatibilities. now that market is starting to flourish they know what
they need to exclude. There is still far too much focus on looks. the first
line of most of the phone descriptions says "eye catching design" or
"changeable covers" If people really cared about looks, we'd all still have
8910i's
The touch screen is welcome. I think nokia are trying to make this as a
connected PDA (O2 XDA challenge-over a year late), there isn't room in the
market for both Pocket PC and Palm, let alone another new OS.

Isn't 6650 also a 3G phone?

I think this is the released one he was talking about.
they both are according to nokia, however, 3 UK, refuse to sell either
handset, since they are both incapable of making video calls, which many
would argue, is the whole point of 3G, certainly 3 do. therefore, nokia does
not have a 3G phone out yet. NEC, and Motorola do, therefore Nokia is
cutting itself out of a very large market completely, I'm sure many would
agree, that this is patently stupid.
