I've RTFM til I'm blue in the face, and still no joy.
I have configured the general Proflie to use a certain ringtone.
Yet no matter what I do, when the phone rings, it plays a stupid jungle.mid
tone instead.
I have ensured I am using the correct profile (its matterless - I set it to
my chosen tone for ALL profiles just in case), and I don't even have any
caller groups created yet on the phone for it to be that which is causing
this).
As an additional fall back, I even set a Ringtone specific to a given
contact.
But no matter what, when the phone rings, it uses its own stupid ringtone.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug? If so, its going striaght
back -as it's th poorest Nokia I have had yet.
Also, I think I already know this from my old 7650, but am I right in saying
that there is no way to increase the tiny font used in text messages? My
partner doesn't wear her glasses on a night out - consequently she can't
even read her messages I send her when she is out. What gives? Can you
make it readable?
I have to say, so far, I am EXTREMELY disapointed with the n-gage folks.
1) Speaker on the side edge - silly - even the music phone has a front
mounted speaker in the corner, to make holding it as a phone easier.
2) Ringtone issues mentioned above.
3) Unlike my old 7650, they have done away with the Gallery folders - now,
only IMAGES are directly accesible. No tones/sounds folders. Why?
4) Small text font - can it be changed?
5) Game swapping - what on this earth is the logic behind having to take
the back cover of, remove the battery, and then a fiddly clip, to change the
game card? Nice one Nokia - I really see you competing with the Game Boy
with that kind of logic, and it really makes the phone I bought for my son
to borrow as a game deck redundant straight away. Has any thought at all
gone into this?
5) Bluetooth - getting it to connect to my PC's (I have five in case Nokia
say its a PC issue, and two different Bluetooth Adaptors/cards) is
nightmare. And worse, Nokia's follow up support for this has been abysmal.
Additionally though, I had this with the 7650, so expected Nokia support to
be crap, and just intended to fall back to Infra Red. Woh... N-gage doesn't
have it though! And even the USB cable has been problematic on all PC's.
Our lass likes the phone for novelty value. Me however, as a user of most
every previous Nokia... It's terrible folks - it tries to be lots of
things, and consequently fails at all. Not even a Jack of All Trades, never
mind a Master of none...
But, can anyone tell me why the ringtone WON'T work as to what I set it at
in Profiles (oh, did I mention that they have ALSO removed the TONES option
from within settings, as per what the 7650 had???)

Hmmm - seems like it just doesn't like some of the tones I have added. If I
change to one of the default type tones, the ones that appear without any
..mid extension, it works.
Soon as i choose one I've added, and no joy. Which is a pain in the
backside and really stupid, given that as you are previewing them in the
list, it plays it PERFECT, and they all worked on my 7650.
This bloody n-gage has me demented.
So anyone know how you get your own midi files to work? I thought the
n-gage was meant to be able to handle most all sound files, so why can't I
set a midi as a ringtone, when the phone itself previews it fine anyway?
Doh.

Just tried mine with a couple of files I downloaded and it seems to work. I
didn't use bluetooth to transfer them though. This is how I managed it :
Downloaded a symbian app called fexplorer, transfered it to the phone via
the USB (it shows a virtual drive in windows explorer) and then installed
it.
Transfered my preffered tone to the virtual drive, disconnected the phone
from the computer and activated fexplorer. Located my required tone on the
'E' drive (<disk>), selected options, edit, cut. Then go to C: <flash>,
Nokia, Sounds, Digital and then select options, edit and then paste.
When you exit fexplorer and go to select a new tone your new one will be
there.

It depends slightly on which version of Windoze you are using, but when you
connect the USB cable between the PC and the n-gage, Windoze should
automatically find and install the correct drivers for the Virtual disk
drive. I use XP, and the MMC card in my n-gage appears as "Removable Disk
F:", then all you do is browse to F: by using Windoze explorer, and cut and
paste files onto it.
The new drive may not appear if you don't have an MMC or the "Nokia Game"
card installed.

I'm running Windows 98SE and it shows up as Removble Drive as well.
