Thanks for the response'; I've got the phone about 2cm away from the unit,
and there are no flourescent light in the room.
Could it be the unit isn't up to scratch?

It sounds like a faulty unit, but 2cm is a bit close. Being too close can
sometimes cause as many problems as being too far away.
