Iam trying to add a headset to my cark91, the idea is to connect it via the
    slave/privacy handset connection.

Does anyone have a diagram showing the pinouts for this socket?

    cheers
    Dave

would'nt it be simpler to just get a bluetooth headset?

Only if the phone supports it ;-) AFAIK you can't have both connected to a
phone at the same time anyway, I have a 6310i and an HDW-2 BT headset, as
soon as I plug it into the CARK-91 it says "disconnect wired accessory" or
    some such thing..!

To the OP: why do you want to connect a headset to a handsfree system
anyway, what's wrong with the supplied speaker and microphone..?!

    In answer to your posts.

The bluetooth headset is disconnected when the phone is in the carkit I have
    tried it.

I have a bluetooth headset and there is not enough battery talktime in the,
or any, headset for me to use effectivly.

I used to have a headset connected to my old carkit and it made life much
easier when trying to talk on 'noisey' roads, and I would like to do the
same again but more efficiently than cutting the speaker and mike cables.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you're going to use the headset,
why use the car kit? What does the car kit do besides act as a
speakerphone, which you don't want to use? Sounds like you simply
need a wired headset and a cigar lighter cord.

Or does the kit provide other functions I'm unaware of?

I understand now what you want to do but I still don't get why..! What sort
of roads are you driving on that are so noisy..?! What car is it, as I've
used handsfree kits in several cars over the years and short of an open top
car I haven't come across one that I couldn't hear the speaker in.

I don't think though that the bluetooth connection on the phone will
function while the phone is in the car kit, when I've tried it the headset
    disconnects.

Never did like bluetooth much anyway..!

    Ivor
PS please don't top post it takes effort to correct it..!

I understand exactly what Dave wants to do and why. I realize this is an old thread but maybe I can obtain some help also. The Car Kit offers such ammenities as charging, audio muting, external antenna connection for higher gain, etc. However, the acoustics of an automobile are not very good. People ask me to take my phone from the car kit so they can understand me. It sounds like your talking inside a barrel. Not to mention picking up all the road noise near the windshield. And yes, I've tried all sorts of mic placement configurations. Having a headset would allow for better audio qualities as well as keeping all the things we buy a Car Kit for. If anyone has been able to provide the information Dave was originally asking for, would you be so kind as to share it with me? Thank you.

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but are you saying the audio from
    your CARK-91 microphone is poor..?

I had this problem when I first installed mine, and I cured it simply by
placing the mike so the cable enters at the bottom, not at the top as I
originally had it mounted. It seems that it's very directional in this
respect. I have it mounted at the top of the pillar between the drivers
door and the windscreen and it works fine.
