    Re: Nokia 6600 Help

    Hi Joe

I had similar problem with 6100 contacts but annoyingly 'PC Suite for Nokia
6600' does not recognise my 6100. I tried using various methods but errors
occurred, I assume that the 6600 must do something different with it's
    infra-red communications.

Anyway, I ended up sending each contact as a business card via infra-red
making sure to select 'all details' when option was available. 'All details'
option ensures that additional information other than default numbers is
sent with the business card. All you then have to do is open the sms-style
message and save the details in to your 6600 contacts. However I did find
that I could only send between 10 and 17 business cards before a transfer
error message appeared, I assume that the 6600 can only store a limited
volume of data with each business card being of differing volume depending
upon the quantity of information stored for each contact. As soon as I open
and saved the business cards, I deleted them out of my sms inbox and then
went back to sending more business cards over. I had about 115 contacts to
transfer so it took about 1 hour but it worked which is the objective.

Now I am working on transferring my saved and unsaved sms messages.

    I thought I'm alone with this PCSuite's bug ;-)
If you have nothing against using third-party software, we plan to release
the version of Oxygen Phone Manager for Symbian phones supporting 6600 the
next week. It will able to read phonebook files with 7250i data (including
    photoes).

If you will have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

    With best regards, Oleg Fyodorov.

The question was answered the other day on this forum, but if you can't get
the thread here is the info the chaps supplied. worked fine on mine.

Voda's helpdesk really came up with the goods today. Here are their WAP
    settings via GPRS:

    Data bearer: GPRS
    Access point name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
    User name: wap
    Prompt password: no
    Password: wap
    Authentication: Normal
    Homepage: http://live.vodafone.com

    Advanced settings:
    Phone IP address: Automatic
    Primary name server: 0.0.0.0
    Second. name server: 0.0.0.0
    Proxy server address: 212.183.137.012
    Proxy port number: 8799

I also set up an IMAP4 email access point:
    Connection name: Mail
    Data bearer: GPRS
    Access point name: internet
    User name: web
    Prompt password: No
    Password: web

All other basic/advanced settings as per above. You need another access
point for MMS but all this took two hours with ringbacks and I ran out of
    time.

Here you go, the mms settings as requested

    Press the Menu Key
Scroll down to Tools , press the Navigation Key to select
Scroll to Settings, press the Navigation Key to select
Scroll down to Connection, press the Navigation Key to select
Scroll to Access points, a message saying 'No access points defined. Define
    Now?' will appear, press Yes
Scroll down to Connection name and enter Vodafone MMS
Scroll down to Data bearer and set to GPRS
Scroll down to Access point name and enter:

    for Contract: wap.vodafone.co.uk
    for PayT: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Scroll down to User Name, select and enter wap
Scroll down to Prompt Password, select and set to No
Scroll down to Password, select and enter wap
Scroll down to Authentication, select and set to normal
Scroll down to Gateway IP address, select and enter
Scroll down to Homepage, and after the http:// enter
    mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

Note: the cursor is before the http:// so use the Navigation key to move to
    the right
Press Options and scroll down to Advanced settings

Note: these next 3 settings unless tampered with are set to the required
    settings as default
Scroll down to Phone IP address, and set to Automatic
Scroll down to Primary name servers and set to 0.0.0.0
Scroll down to Second. name server and set to 0.0.0.0
Scroll down to Proxy serv. Address and enter 212.183.137.012

Note: use the [1] key to get a full stop
Scroll down to Proxy port number and enter 8799
Now go back to the Menu
Scroll down to Messaging, press the Navigation key to select
Press Options and scroll down to Settings, press the Navigation key to
    select
Scroll down to Multimedia Message, press the Navigation key to select
Highlight Access point in use, and select Vodafone MMS
Scroll down to Multimedia Reception and set to always on
Scroll down to On Receiving Msg and set to Retr immediately
Scroll down to Image quality and set to Small

    Hi

You need to read the mms settings very carefully. After you have finished
the connections part you have to go to messaging and input a few more
settings their(default access point which should be Vodafone mms). If you do
not do this it will fail everytime as a friend of mine discovered.

If you use the settings for the 7650 taken from
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,32863,00.html and choose your provider etc,
then edit them (Access Point -> Advanced Settings) to enter the PROXY IP &
PORT they work fine on Vodafone contract phones.

The other settings WAP and MAIL are fine without any changes, but the
default for MMS would not work, I suspect the / is needed after the /mms

But YMMV as with all things!

I'm also getting the same errors on my 6600 using the settings supplied
on this newsgroup. Wap and Internet work great, but no go on MMS either
to another mobile or to an e-mail address.

So I tried setting up my 7650, hadn't bothered until now, and guess
what. It does exactly the same as the 6600.

The 7650 was set-up using the wizard thingy on Singlepoint's web site -
the settings are exactly the same as Vodafone's.

Initially I had to contact technical support at Singlepoint as the GPRS
settings would not work, so could the problems be down to a settings on
    our respective accounts?

I've tried adding the extra / at the end and get the error 'Invalid
    preferred multimedia access point.'

    Re: nokia 6600 help

Like I said earlier, you have to go to messaging and define your access
point as vodafone mms in the settings menu.
This has worked for every single uk 6600 on vodafone. If it isn't working
for you then either your account has not been setup for gprs or mms by the
network provider or you are doing something wrong.
