Instead of transferring my info (contacts etc.) from my 3610 to my
n-gage I stupidly backed up all the data from this to the n-gage. I
now get a message saying that I have too much data and to remove some.
Sadly, this always happens whenever I switch on and also whenever I
try to access the menu. Is there anything (apart from scrapping the
thing) I can do to restore it?

AFAICS, get a data cable and some utility off the net to wipe the memory.
Otherwise return it to the shop and they should be able to do it, although
they will probably charge you something for it.

Have you tried doing a hard reset?
