Hi all
Is there anywhere i can get an imei number checked to see if the phone i am
thinking of buying from a (loosely speaking) friend, is as he says it is! by
that i mean not stolen!
A phone number / website would be great

A call to the customer services dept of the network you're intending to
connect to would be a good start.

Yeah. Right. Dunno what network you're on mate but I predict any attempt
to verify an IMEI using this method would cost a lot of time and money and
get you precisely nowhere. I've only used O2 customer service but they are
a bunch of muppets who tend to like keeping you on hold, preferably on a
premium rate number. I doubt they have the authority to release IMEI info
over the phone.
Why not just type in *#06# on the idle screen and see if the number matches
the one printed on the handset, behind the battery? If the 2 numbers match,
you should be fine. If not, report your 'friend' to the police. Better
yet, blackmail him into doing you some massive favour / giving you cash.
Nobody likes a grass ;-)
