Re: any walkie talkie programs for bluetooth ?
well after a day of searching the net... nothing...
seems an application waiting is a Voice over Bluetooth program for the
Symbian 60 phones...
hmmmm.....
and yes imagine calling ur mate or girlfriend without using any carrier
networks...free version has no scrambling features so others can hear
in....similar to the audio on yahoo chat system....think about it folks...
would work in a shopping centre, concert, etc....and the Ngage has 30
meters...thats 100 feet! not bad when going through walls too...
already i can see a user interface ....
anyone know about Voice over Bluetooth ?

another idea is audio paging your computer and vice versa....imagine the
tech support savings!...

The point is motorola walkie talkies that are cheap can do 2-5 miles... Also bluetooth
decreases the more walls there are. . . are you sure that ngage has 30metres bluetooth?!

Think you'll find Bluetooth is 30 feet not 30 metres! Although you'll be
lucky if you get that - it's meant to be a personal area network with a
typical range of about 3 metres.

Re: any walkie talkie programs for bluetooth ?
ill find info on bluetooth with the SIG group thankx...stop assuming
****....
do some research then say something...i aint interested in what your
chemicals in your brain say about bluetooth...
i have a Bluetooth USB dongle thats 100 meters (333 feet) and the
ngage...well ill do my own tests when i get it...and all the documents i
have say 30 meters
why the heck would they promote multi-player gaming if they dont have a
strong bluetooth signal...
cheers

the ngage will be lucky to manage 10 metres. the USB dongle's 100m range is
only when used with another USB dongle. there are two main 'strengths' of
bluetooth, the phone uses a low-power version to maximise communication
times.

bluetooth = average 5-8m gameplay range.
which is ten times the distance of infrared.
not as if it's a short distance anyway, 8 metres is quite a long way away
from someone if you are gaming with them.

Re: any walkie talkie programs for bluetooth ?
the nokia ngage game deck states on page 115 of the users guide that 2
nokias only have to be a MAXIMUM of 10 meters and ... etc
now I'm sure that statement is probably on the safe side with some walls....
but in the open and outside its range can go to 30 meters....or within the
confines of one building/warehouse...
still i wanna see a cb radio type program via bluetooth
cheers

While your continued desire to have such a device/program in the face of
such obvious ridicule is admirable to you, quite frankly, to the rest of
the people in here who have a technical background of any sort, it kind of
onerous to say the least.
Like Paulo mentioned, how useful could a bluetooth walkie talkie (aka two
way radio) be if it could only send and recieve 10-30 meters? It sure
wouldn't be very useful with walls in the way. If you really want to have
two-way radios and a phone then you really only have two options that I can
think of.
Option A: Keep your bluetooth Nokia and purchase a pair of Motorola two way
radios for approx $25-$50 (range - approx 2 miles).
Option B: Get a Motorola Nextel and use their two way radio capability and
find a different newsgroup (the Nextel one) to bother.
Can anyone else think of any other options for Mark who clearly wants to
have bluetooth, a phone, and two way radio capability?

Re: any walkie talkie programs for bluetooth ?
surely a paging or pager between 2 paired devices is not a bad idea...
how useful is the paging facility on a cordless phone? DOH....
you cant see any obvious reasons? wow and you say you and others are
technical...bwa ha ha ha
firstly dont talk on behalf of the others...makes em distrust u....and
no wonder innovation went out the window since the start of the new
century....bwa ha ha ha ha
no wonder Rod Speed exists here...cheers

First, a paging program might be useful especially if one wasn't smart
enough to keep track of their cell phone (which, I admit, I have been known
to do) and you didn't want to just use a landline to call it and find it
that way.
But, you were asking about walkie talkie capabilities. And that capability
is what I was addressing. Innovation is fine. As far as walkie talkie
capabilities in a cell-phone, yes, I am sure that it would be useful.
Nextel has already proven it's viability. But not using bluetooth as the
transmission medium.
You say innovation went out the window since the new century. I disagree.
There are several new items hitting the market that shows we are moving
right along. I'll name just one that will revolutionise the way we look at
computing - 64 bit processing. Apple just came out with 64 bit processing
and so did AMD. Pentium isn't far behind.
