Hi,
I'm wondering for how long I'm supposed to charge my new Nokia 6610.
The Nokia manual says 3 hours, but the T-Mobile pamphlet says 12 to 24
hours for most batteries. I've searched using Google and I saw posting
talking about 16 to 48 hours.
I am really confused and I want to use the battery at maximum
capacity.
Should I follow the manual and remove it from charger after 3 hours or
keep it there for longer. If so, how long?
Thanks in advance

Best is to plug in the phone and leave it charging for 16-24 hrs for ur
phone. Run down the battery to a really low level (battery empty if u can)
before charging again. Especially important in the first 5-10 charges.
PS. If u have a bigger capacity battery (ie 3310/5110/9110/9210 type
battery, charging time for it would be extended, so leave those bigger
batteries charging for 20-24+ hrs.

Agreed. The battery is a Lithium-Ion battery, doesn't have the "memory"
effect that old NiCads did. Hell, if there's a charge on the battery
when the phone is taken out of the packaging, use it All you have
to keep in mind is that the battery likes a fully charged state most of
the time, so keep it plugged in at night if possible.

Another poster already called this nonsense, but I wanted to clarify:
There is _no_ benefit to running a Lithium Ion battery down to empty.
At best it won't hurt, but it is absolutely not necessary. NiCd
batteries probably needed that. NiMH batteries might have or might
not; I've heard a lot of disagreement on the matter. Lead Acid cells
do not like to be fully discharged.
Another interesting thing worth noting is that Lithium Ion batteries
don't like being kept for a long time at 100% capacity; it shortens
their life significantly. 95% or so is fine. It's a bad idea to charge
a LiIon battery to 100% and then store it. I don't have a URL
reference for this information; it was told in a presentation by one
of Apple's lead engineers discussing LiIon charging technology.

I can attest to the truth of this. I've seen more than one person do
this on a Li-ION laptop battery and they've ruined them in much
shorter order than if they hadn't taken this route.
