Does anyone know of a place to find drivers for this phone?

And also is the data cable for the 8100 the same cable for the 5500?

I was looking at this data cable:
    http://www.boxwave.com/products/mini...anyo/index.htm

But they don't say anything about the 5500. I don't know if that is
because they don't have the drivers for it or if the cable is
    different.

If anyone can shed some light on this please let me know. Thanks.

besides being half the cost of the futuredial piece, the above cable will
charge the phone as you surf.

Someone here posted a link to the FD site where the 8100 driver lives ----
can't recall which thread, but it's been within the past 10 or so days.

So the 8100 Driver will work for the 5500 phone then?

Even my old 4900 drivers, downloaded a year ago from Futuredial, worked
straight off with the 5500. But I downloaded the newer drivers from
Futuredial last week (for free), and it works better -- 230kbps USB
instead of 115kbps USB. The new 230kbps version meant I've several
times gotten actual connect speeds of 120+kbps, which would have been
    impossible under the older version.

BTW, the FutureDial drivers also work with the charging versions of the
USB cable. I got one of one those cables yesterday similar to the one
you mention above, but off eBay (thanks, Donna Becker). It seems that
the fact that some cables charge while others don't depends on something
wiring-wise within the cable itself. I now have two USB cables that
allow me to surf the net on my laptop; they look identical, but one
charges and the older one doesn't.

It is the same. They use the same connectors.
I ahve also used the 8100 drivers with the 5500, and have had no
    problems so far.

8100/4900 cable will work with 5500. You need to update your snapsync
software though, if you wish to transfer the address book.

I followed the link above and clicked on "Manual USB Driver
Installation" and then clicked on the link for the new 8100 driver and
it ask me for a email and serial number. The email i've got but i'm
assuming the serial number is if you've purchased future dial software
(which i havn't). I don't see any other way to down load the driver
    for the 8100.

But it will let me download the 4900/5300 driver. Is this the one that
you used to get the better speeds?

Thanks Donkey Agony I appreciate it.

I downloaded the "Automatic" driver (since it was the recommended one),
not the "Manual" one. The automatic one does not ask you for an
    email/serial number.

Indeed ---- I had a print around here someplace that showed two pins
jumpered together with a wire and two pins jumpered with a diode. Pretty
simple fix, if you're able to work on stuff that small.
