I just changed back to Sprint after a few years trying several other
carriers. I'm just wondering what the most recent PRL is. I believe mine is
10020 (I'm not sure since the phones off, charging). I have the PCS Free &
Clear Nationwide plan (if this makes any difference). If this isn't the
latest PRL, how do I go about getting the latest? I understand it involves
calling SPCS -- if so, how apt are they to 'giving you' the new PRL so to
speak; in other words, are they going to be inquisitive and ask my WHY I
    need/want the new PRL?

    Thank you.

Give SPCS a call, and tell Claire "PRL Update". When a live CS rep comes on
line, ask him/her to flag your account for the latest PRL - 10021.

Then in 15-30 minutes, and with a strong signal on your phone, call *2. You
should get a message saying that SPCS recognizes the need to update your
phone, and within a minute or two, the upload should be complete.

    Re: PRL Question

Thanks! One more question. Which calls to CS (or related #'s) use airtime
minutes (I read that *4 uses airtime), does this apply to *2 for CS as well?
I remember hearing maybe a year or so back, that SPCS was even charging
customers to call CS; does this policy still apply as well?
    Thanks again

No charge to call *2. On *4, the minutes used would apply to your account in
the past, not sure for today. As to your last question, No ...

The *4 minutes apply, but they don't apply until after the disclaimer they
give you at the beginning. Something like "... if you on the line, airtime
    usage will apply ...".

    thanks for the info...

but here is another situation... if I have PRL 10019 and the latest PRL is
10021 and I call CLAIR, and have my phone flagged by CS and then wait, call
*2 and <FINALLY> get the message PRL update complete... I recycle my phone
but the PRL still says I have 10019

    Now what??

    Re: PRL Question

This happened to me when I tried to update my PRL and my signal was
relatively weak (2 bars out of 4). The voice cues said the update was done
but my phone menu still read the old PRL. I had to wait until I had a 4 bar
signal and then update the PRL. It worked after that.

Call back and have it reflagged. Mention that it needs to be at 10021.

I think only a consistant signal is necessary. It is clearly be
transimitted over the old compatible [and slow] CDMA protocols rather than
the newer CDMA2000 data protocols. I updated my phones from home, and I
usually hover between 2 and 3 bars (out of 4) on my Samsung A500. No
    trouble.

From the way I interpert the blurb on *4, airtime begins to apply when
it goes to grab your account information.

    Current PRL is 10021

    Probably very minimal difference.

Call *2. When Claire asks "What can I do for you today?" or something
similar, say "representative." When a CS rep comes on, ask for a PRL
update. They flag your account and they'll instruct to wait a a few
minutes and then call *2 back. The next time Claire answers, she'll
announce that you need the update and will do it for you.

They've never asked me why, they'll just do it.

*2 has never costed airtime, and doesn't now. About a year and a half
ago, they used to charge sub-prime customers $3 for CS calls, but have
    since dropped that policy.

*4 (automated account balance and payment info) still uses airtime though.
