When I signed up for my original contract back in sept '02, I got a cheap
kyocera 1135 phone because it was free at the time. It is now beginning to
crap out so I stopped by my local sprint store last night to see what I
could upgrade too. I have also gotten married in the last year so I would
like to upgrade my plan to include two phones. My current 1 yr plan expired
back in Sept ('03) so I am off contract and free to leave if I wish.

    My current plan:
    350 AT minutes
    unlimited N&W at 9pm
    no vision
    $34.99/month
    month to month

My local Sprint store offered me the following:
    500 AT minutes
Unlimited N&W at 7pm free for two months, then reverting back to 9pm after
    that
Can upgrade to 7pm for an additional $7/month.
Vision free for two months, then no vision after that unless I pay
    $15/month.
two free Sanyo 8100 camera phones.
They would waive the connection fee on my phone, but we would still have to
pay a $36 connection fee for the additional phone.
    $65/month
    2 yr agreement

I said that I would think it over and then left.

I am not overly impressed by this new plan they are offering me. I guess I
thought they would offer me a better deal to stay with sprint, but this
doesn't seem to be much of a deal. I don't see anything that I wouldn't be
able to get if I was just a new subscriber.
Should I take this plan? tell them to make it sweeter? tell them to go to
    hell and walk?

    any feedback is appreciated

Thats about the plan you'd get from http://www.intelenetwireless.com,
although they throw in car chargers, cases, and ear phones, the downside
is you'd need to get new phone numbers.

Sprint is no longer the price leader it was 2 years ago. AT&T is now,
    but they have other issues.

Check with your neighbors for who has best cellular coverage in your
town. If you don't ever go out of state, get a Local plan, which will
    have many more minutes.

Sprint has the best coverage in my area, and we do travel, so free roaming
    and LD are necessary.
I really don't want to switch from Sprint, but they sure don't seem to want
    to keep me too bad.

That's a good deal, considering they are providing 2 phones at no additional
cost. Only other thing you might want on the account is the $5/mo. PCS2PCS
option. No minutes charged on the account if making or receiving a call from
another SPCS phone. IOW, all calls to & from the Mrs. are not chargeable ...
    while on SPCS's system.

Actually, that was included in their offer, I just forgot to list it. They
waived the $5/month fee for that, and included it as long as we agreed to a
    two year agreement.

But you're whining about AT&T over in alt.cellular.attws... complaining
about how they are allegedly defrauding customers. Why would you send someone
    from another carrier to them?

Check alt.cellular.attws, guys... Phillipe is at it again.

Basically if cost is important, you suffer with AT&T, if coverage and
service is important, then you go with Verizon.

Seems like the 800 department for retention doesnt exist now, they've
all been transferred to LNP maybe.

Matt, you mentioned that the 500 minute offer didn't=20
attract you. However, you haven't really given us an idea=20
of what kind of minute package you need for your planned=20
usage of the phones. Here, for an example:

    There's a 2000 minute plan out there. $100/month.

With a 2-year agreement, you can get PCS2PCS minutes for=20
    free, Night&Weekends starting at 7PM for $5/month. Vision=20
service is included on the primary phone, and only $5/month=20
on the second. Voice service for the second phone is free.

Equipment Replacement plan would be $4/month per line. So,=20
too, Roadside Rescue. You could get Voice Command on both=20
lines for $5. Same with Free&Clear America (depending upon=20
the market you're in) which would provide for roaming.

But if you don't expect to use anywhere near that number of=20
minutes, then it's not that great a deal. What do you=20
    expect to use?

If anyone wants a $40 to $60 plan or a 600 minute plan, Sprint's pricing
is right up there with Verizon with half the minutes one can get with
    Cingular, TMobile or AT&T.
