My Sprint PCS and SBC Story: (Sorry Very Long Rant/Story)
This is a shorten version than my journal I kept on this.

    Nov 20th:
My story begins on Nov 20th when I decided to get a cellphone.
I was moving from my apartment into my new home I just closed
on. I wanted to keep my landline number so I called Sprint PCS
to see if this was possible. They stated that it was not
possible but to check back on Nov 24th when a new law
states that this will be possible. I also checked to see if
I get a discount from my company. They said yes, I would
get 20% off my bill every month. Great!

    Nov 24th:
Called Sprint and stated that I wanted to Port my LandLine to
a brand new Cellphone. They stated that they cannot port the
numbers just yet and to call back again tommrow.

    Nov 25th:
Called Sprint again to order. They stated that it was now
possible to port my number. They then proceeded to take my
order and port the number. I really liked the Samsung A660
phone and asked for that phone. They said it was available
and they would be glad to send it. I should up and activated
by Friday Nov 28th. If I did not recieve my phone on Friday,
    I was to call them.

    Nov 28th:
    No Phone has arrived.
Called Sprint asking where is my phone. They said they had no
record of me calling but would be glad to retake my order again
and ship out the phone next day. I said alright we all make
mistakes. Sprint took my order and I stated I wanted to port
my number and also get the Samsung A660 phone.

    Nov 29th:
UPS arrives: Inside was a Samsung A620 phone. (wrong phone)
Called Sprint immediately to tell them of their mistake.
They stated that they will charge me for the phone until it
is returned. I said that is not fair and I understand that
they want the phone returned but I should not be charged.
We agreed that they would bill me for the phone until it
was sent back. They stated they would send the correct
phone Samsung A660 and send me a Return kit.

    Dec 1st:
Ups Arrives: Yet again Another Samsung A620 Phone and No Return Kit.
Called Sprint again about their mistake. Asked, Why would you
send the same wrong phone twice after I was confirmed that
they would send the correct phone. Again they were going to bill
me for the phone. Total Bill so far if $499. I asked again
to send the Samsung A660 phone and 2 Return Kits.

    Dec 2nd:
Called Sprint to check on the order. They stated they are sending
the correct phone and 2 return kits.

    Dec 3rd:
UPS Arrives: Samsung A660 phone (yea!) and 1 Return Kit.

    Dec 4th:
Called sprint to activate my phone. They gave me a really strange
number. I asked what happened with my original Landline. They
stated they NEVER ported it. Also asked why only 1 Return kit.
They stated it was their mistake again. Sprint decided they will port
the number for me right away. They gave me an ETA of Dec 6th at 12am.
Also they will send another return kit.

I have been without a phone since Nov 24th. (10 days)

    Dec 5th:
    No Return Kit.
    Dec 6th:
Called to activate my phone. Sprint told me they could not activate
my phone since they just sent the paper work and wont be out till
Monday Dec 7th. It should take about 2 days to port.

    Dec 7th:
    No return kit.
Called sprint for a status on the port and to send another kit. I was
sent to 14 different people. I was even sent to the Sprint Internal
    Helpdesk.

    Dec 8th:
    No return kit.
Called Sprint for another status. They said they sent the papers and
SBC acknowledge the paperwork. Should be anytime I get the number.

    Dec 10th:
    No return kit.
Called sprint about the kit that I did not recieve it. They will resend.
Asked for status and they stated that SBC had problems porting the number.
I told them I was without a phone for 2 weeks now. They in returned
and said it was NOT their fault but SBC.

    Dec 11th:
    Recieved kit.
Called SBC. They stated that they recieved NO PAPERWORK from Sprint
about porting the number. They said to immediately call Sprint back.
Called sprint back to see what was happening. They told me the
same thing that it was SBCs fault. Asked to talk managers. Was
transferred 10 times. Asked to escalate this to the VPs. I was
getting angry that I had no phone and they lied to me. They said
they could do nothing, and it was SBC.

    Dec 12th
Filled out FCC FORM475 for complaint. Notified SBC and Sprint.
Still waiting for the port and phoneless.

    Dec 13th
Still waiting for the port and phoneless.

    Dec 14th:
Got sick and tired of calling. Watched Bears game instead.

    Dec 15th:
Sent phones they sent by mistake back. Got reciept from UPS.
Same response back from Sprint Again.
    3 Weeks phoneless.

Does ANYONE know what I can do? I called Sprint customer care, and
all they can give me is free phone minutes for a phone I dont
have activated. I have to be moved out of my apartment by
Dec 24th. After that I lose the phone number. IF ANYONE can help
    please REPLY ASAP.

    Thanks
    John

PS I have wasted SPENT HOURS on the phone *2.
I was given ALL these number to contact sprint but they all lead to the same
    crap customer service:

Wow dude. What a mess!! You were correct to keep the UPS receipt. By
any chance did you write down the ESN #'s of the two wrong phones? If
you did, hold on to them until you're credited for the return. Once
they claimed I had never returned a phone sent in error. They were
able to track it by the ESN and issued me a credit. I've never bought
from them online or over the phone since.

Re: My SprintPCS Horror Story - Porting Number

Don't let them blame SBC for your troubles. I've been going thru the same
situation since 11/28/03. I to am trying to port my home phone from SBC to
sprint. Somehow my port request was cancelled five minutes after it was
initiated. I've talked to 20 different people at Sprint, and they all give
a different answer as to what is going on. My number to this day is still
showing as port pending even though another part of their system says it's
been cancelled. Each time I call the Tier 1, Tier2, portability resolution
dept, whatever they are calling themselves at the moment, they tell me don't
worry we can have the secret system police clear this up. I'm waiting for
one of those people to call me back tonight. Bet they don't call back!!!!
The other five who promised a call back didn't. You can try the number
portability resolution Dept @ 866 657-6846 (guaranteed long wait time, but
at least you don't have to explain it to the clueless first). Don't get me
wrong, I have been a sprint customer from the beginning and I'm not gonna
leave over this, but you gotta wonder if the company is gonna make it with
such an incompetent staff relaying information to the customer. Half the
time I had to walk them through the porting process after they gave me some
lame excuse as to why my number could not be ported, one even said I had to
initiate the port with my previous carrier. I too filed a complaint with
the FCC, but haven't heard from them about my issue. I think everyone
paying that fake number portability fee should get a refund, obviously they
didn't spend the money to make this process work.
