As Tom said in his follow up, there could be a number of reasons why they
weren't roaming on Verizon. Having an old PRL, the phone set to SPCS only,
etc. If you do get any further inquiries on F&CA, ask them what PRL version
they have, and what setting they have under their roaming options.

Perhaps the service is significantly better where his mother lives.

I gather from the context of his statement that she lives, works and plays
in areas of town that have decent coverage ... so no need to pay the ETF if
    she can use it.

Well, no, he won't be missed. Thats because he said he *wasn't leaving*

I thought that it could be the case of them not having the phone setup
correctly but there has been several different SPCS customers in here that I
know are on the Free and Clear plans and none would work in here, so I
figured chances they are all setup incorrectly was slim. I would be
interested to know if the Free and Clear includes this areas Verizon system.
I am in triad area of NC BTW.

I actually never met a sales rep who really knew the particular's about the
service they sell. All they basically know is what's on the marketing
paperwork they receive. Other then that, asking technical questions you'll
get the deer in headlight stare. Anyway, most of the sales people are
kids....in the age range of 18-21...which means they already know
    everything.

KC, I think you might be a bit confused. SPCS offers two versions of F & C.
The standard version - F & C - is where customers can make and receive calls
whenever they are on SPCS's system, without regard of having just local
coverage. They can roam on whoever SPCS has roaming agreements in that
    respective area.

Then there is an option one can buy called F&CA, which includes roaming at
no additional expense ... up to 50% of the minutes used in a month, whether
the roaming is on 800 Analog or CDMA & 1900 CDMA.

With previous PRL versions, we couldn't roam on 800 CDMA, as SPCS only
offered 1900 CDMA and 800 Analog roaming with very limited roaming on 1900
CDMA on another provider. For a long time, SPCS only sold 1900 CDMA single
band or 1900 CDMA / 800 Analog dual band phones. Now, most phones sold are
    Dual Band / Tri mode.

With this new 10021 PRL, we can now digitally roam on both 800 & 1900 CDMA
in a hellava lot more places, where other providers offer 800 or 1900 CDMA
    coverage.

Ross Weber and Ryan Allen used to post in ACV a lot. Ryan was a Customer
Service Rep in Columbus, Ohio, and Ross was a retail sales rep in Minneapolis.
They're both knowledgeable. There are some Rat Shack employees (like Steve
Crow) who know their stuff. KC is an indirect VZW rep and I think he knows his
    stuff too.

The best ones always do (and I'm not just talking about VZW).
There just aren't a lot of them.

There's so much cycle rates with employees in NJ they work for a couple of
months and quit. The new hires are hired so quick, they barely understand
the service they are selling. I work for a cable company...I'm not a sales
person by any means, but I know the service inside and out. It's only
logical in my mind cause I care and most people don't give a hoot. Like
those 18-21 year old Verizon sales kids that buy nice clothes to sell
    cellular service.

Yes...rare and few which only gives the company a bad impression. Soon when
all cellular services are the same quality is what I can't wait for. It's
bound to happen that Cingular and others will be just as good as Verizon's
network reliability. This is not to say Verizon's network is the best...I am
plagued with dropped calls, dropped packets and noise but it's better then
    the other's for now.
