Activate a Kyocera 6035 or 7035?

Any one know if you can activate either a 6035 or a 7035 Sprint branded phone?
I've got access to a 6035--will they activate?

OR should I look for a 7035?

I like the palm idea!

Sure thing but you will have a bit of a problem with getting support
for that phone considering a lot of the Sprint techs won't know much
about that phone

You should be able to activate a 6035.

Much to the dismay of *MANY* 6035 fans, Sprint does NOT support the
7135. For that, you would have to go to Nextel or Verizon, I think.

I'm pretty sure that Nextel doesn't have it...

I waited and waited and waited for the 7035.

From what I've lurked on the Verizon groups, they are very buggy, and
weren't worth the wait.

OTOH, other than the form factor differences, the Treo 600 that SprintPCS
does carry is technolgically the same or better in every catagory (if my
memory serves me correctly), and is a hell of a unit. I've had mine for a
month almost

Unfortunately, the Treo 600 is not the same or better than the Kyocera
7135 (there is no 7035). It's a distant second (to my criteria).

1) It (the Treo 600) wastes volume and power on a worthless camera;

2) The Treo is digital-only. No analog fallback, so good luck in the
boonies;

3) The Treo does not have built-in voice recognition -- you have to pay
for it monthly, from your service provider;

4) It wastes space on a thumbboard -- the grafitti area is gone, and you
have to bring up a "virtual grafitti" area on-screen.

5) It's a candybar phone, offering no protection of the screen (as
opposed to the 7135's clamshell).

Kyocera 7135 has been on the market for awhile now and has upgraded its production software. As with most service providers are now doing, they are purchasing the phones from the manufactures and are given a list of numbers called ESN's. These numbers are specific to a phone and cannot be changed. This helps Service providers such as Verizon to not have any approved phones on their networks.

So if you have a Kyocera phone, you will only be able to get service on Verizon, Alltell, etc, only if the service provider has that ESN in their system. Otherwise you may be denied.

A correction: It's worse than this. It turns out that the Treo 600 has

All bull****! Verizon activates phones that are not in their system.

Well it looks like you can manually put your phone on. But there are standards and stuff that people like Rod don't know about. Sure you can put it on Verizon service, but legally you are not suppose to. Verizon has some crappy issues about putting a phone on that doesnt meet their standards and the phone could foul up their system.

Rod, whats your experiences with Verizon. I just post with my experiences. Let me know so I know I am not giving out bull****.

How is this not legal? I want to see this law your talking about.
I bought and paid for my phones and can do with them as I please. Verizon
does not have a problem with them, they are compatible with their system and
unlocked so what's the problem? Sprint PCS and VZW both use CDMA technology.
How are the phones not meeting their standards? If Sprint PCS allowed ESN's
on their system that were VZW's the phones would work either way. And by the
way, I didn't put my phones on manually, I called in an ESN change or just
called in and activated them.

I already told you what my experinces were. And if it offends you that your
telling other people bull**** then so be it. I'm just tired of people coming
to the newsgroups and talking about stuff they don't have a clue about.

There is no truth to this at all. I have a Sony Ericsson T608 working on
Verizon after I unlocked it. Granted, very crippled (no SMS, data doesn't
work as any data attempts try to use a Vision account from Sprint)

Come on guys. I am not trying to feed anyone any bull. From my research, Verizon does not have any documentation that states why they cannot put a non-Verizon phone on their network.

From my experience. Verizon states that they cannot do it because Sprint and Verzion operate on two different frequency bands. That's all they say. A rep said that the computer won't recognize the phone and will not allow the ESN on thier network. I know this is crap, and you all know it is crap because many of us have a non verizon phone on the network. This is not to say that you CAN'T do it. Many of you have said you can, and I have put some on the Sprint phones amongst others on Verizon.

As far as standards are concerned. I work at a wireless phone facility is contracted with verizon. before they accept phones, we submit samples for them, they run tests and qualify the phones and say yea they meet our "standards" and we have a contract with them. At this time we submit every ESN that we send them. This way they know what is qualified on their network.

Granted there are many cases where you can put in a phone and Verizon has no clue whats going on. Second, their reps are dumb and have no clue what they are talking about. Third, you are right you can put any phone you please on the network. BUT if you call them and tell them I have a sprint phone and I want to put it on your network, they told me "our computer wont let us, because they run on different systems." <<< For that reason is why I explained some VZW reps are dumb and will not let you put their phone on their network.

Also, I ask for your experiences, only for the quality of the phone just as Jason stated. "crippled" to see if you are recieving the same quality usage between networks. BTW thanks for the input Jason.

So I called Verzion and Sprint reps. They dont have any documentation that says you cannot have either phone on eachothers networks. WE ALL KNOW IT CAN BE DONE. But generally both say it is a rule of thumb that it cannot be done. They say "our computer will not allow us to enter a non-Verizon/Sprint phone."

Once again, I am not saying it can't be done, but this is what the networks will say or at least thats what they told me.
