If the GAIT phone does analog, why wouldn't it work? Verizon and Sprint
still support AMPS, don't they?

Some (most, actually) of our phones will do analog, but our network is=20
100% digital.

Verizon still has a lot of analog towers.

I *don't* speak for them.

AMPS will but, why would you purchase a GAIT phone ( which is marketed for
Cingular's network and not SprintPCS's network ) for either Verizon's or
Sprint Network if you are going to use in AMPS ( analog ) mode all the time?

And why are posting this to multiple newsgroups? :-)
If you want to make calls, using another carriers network ( roaming ), you
need to make sure that your SprintPCS phone can do
1900Mhz & 850Mhz CDMA and for the really fringe areas, AMPS .
Why bring it up on either of these newsgroups?

It does suck that the original poster had to go through all of this though.
With the exception of the original two A/B carriers, the new guys will be
playing catch-up as far as coverage goes for a while and thus, everybody is
going to be different as to which carrier will work for them?

When you try out a phone, don't wait until the trial period expires to
really give it a good run though/drive test.
Shouldn't take more than a week to decide if it's going to work for you or
not.

It's not that it wouldn't work but, why would you want to relegate a GAIT
phone to becoming a analog only phone at that point?
Kind of academic anyway, since SprintPCS will not have that phone in the
system therefore, it will not be able to be activated on SprintPCS network
anyway. If it's not a SprintPCS phone, it's a show stopper at that point.

activate a phone that will only work analog for them.

Verizon has some Analog/AMPS but Sprint PCS has none. Although they "support"
it with some of their phones, they will not activate a phone that is not CDMA
first and foremost and with Sprint PCS they will not activate any phone that is
NOT a Sprint branded phone.

If you have an existing analog phone you may be able to go to VZW's website,
since they have online ESN-swapping functionality, and put in the serial
number of the new phone, and it might work. Can't guarantee it will; haven't
tried it.

merged one, that is temporarily analog only.

They are not adding any AMPS capacity that I know of.
You can however swap ESN's with one of your digital phones already on the
plan, to an AMPS ( analog ) only phone.
In other words, you have to have a plan in place with a tri-mode phone in
order to do this.
If can't make any calls, don't complain to Customer service though. ;-)
The first thing they will say ( assuming you are on an AC or SR plan ) is
that you must use a tri-mode phone with this plan.

I do it with my 3 Watt bag phone, when I know I will be out in the boonies
and swap it back to my tri-mode phone when I get back.
I love this new feature. Saves me from talking to a CSR and going though a
long schooling on why I need to do this.

In order to swap ESN's online for SprintPCS, the system has to list the
phone on the ESN swap website.

Boy am I glad that I'm with T-Mobile. I've had their service for
almost 5 years now. Have gone from single account to the family plan,
back to individual accounts and now back to family plan.
I have never had a bad time with them. I've had phones break and was
sent replacements quickly, I can get upgrade phones for a fraction of
the original price.

No complaints...had a friend that work with Sprint, he quit because of
their practices and he couldn't live with it.
