I want to my parents to sign up for Sprint.]
Is free and clear an option now on plans?
When I signed up it was included!.....bummer

Included? Free&Clear is the brand name for our standard=20
plans, so yeah, it's included.

Are you talking about Free&Clear America? The roaming=20
option? It depends on which market they're in.

I checked the web site and typed in my zip and it said it was a 5 to 10
dollar option depending on my plan

Free&Clear America (F&CA) was a whole set of plans when we=20
first introduced it. After running that way for a quarter,=20
it was decided that this made things to complicated for=20
customers (not that they *couldn't* understand it, only=20
that they wouldn't bother to try). So we instead turned it=20
into a no-obligation add-on.

The availability of it, though, depends upon what precise=20
market you're in. I may be mixing up conversations, but I=20
think you mentioned NYC, right? If so, then F&CA *is*=20
available in your market. $5/month and covers all roaming=20
charges, plus Long Distance while roaming.

But CALL INTO CUSTOMER CARE to find out for sure. They=20
will look at your parents' "CSA" and determine=20
availability.

It appears that you are in an affiliate area, but it is available. $10/mo
for the F&CA option. Unfortunately, only 100 minutes are available to use
for roaming, but that's not bad, as it averages out to $0.10/min, which
includes LD.

Not that I know of. Free & Clear (no "America" after it) is the name
given to plans that allow you go anywhere Sprint has PCS service and
make calls. All of the US (including Alaska and Hawaii) are "local"
calls on your Sprint phone while on the PCS network.

This type of plan has been offered since 1998 and to this day, the plans
you see on the website (except the ones marked "areawide" which are
regional-only plans), are considered Free & Clear.

"Free & Clear America" refers to the add-on you can attach to a Free &
Clear plan that extends your coverage to points OFF the Sprint PCS
network, when roaming on other carriers. For a while, the add-on was
$10 and gave you only 50 minutes per month of roaming. Now, if you're
in a Sprint corporate market, the add-on is $5 and allows you to use up
to half of your minutes every month while roaming. Affiliate markets
are a bit stricter... the add-on is usually either $5 or $10 and gives
you 100 minutes of your plan for roaming, in these cases.

Actually, Free & Clear America was initially a separate plan available
in corporate markets. It was an additional $10 over the equivalent
Free & Clear plan, but it was not a plan option, it was a completely
different plan (thus a new contract). They offered this for a few
months and then opted to offer it as a plan option for $5 in corporate
markets and $10 in affiliate markets that are willing (I believe some
do not have the option at all).
