Ok, here's the situation. I live in an affiliate market of SPCS (Alamosa
PCS). I've noticed that a great deal of the time, both my phone, and my
wife's phone are 'searching for service' at our home (both phones are set to
SPCS only). If we set them to 'Automatic' they begin to work, but show as
roaming.
We've taken both phones to be tested, and they are fine, both have current
PRL's as well, however they just don't want to work in my house -- the first
week that we had them, they worked on and off, but have now began to not
work at all.
I've noticed in other areas of the city, on occasion they are searching for
service as well.
I understand that SPCS offers their Free & Clear America option that allows
roaming, without getting charged for it, but since I'm in an affiliate
market, all I can get is 100 minutes for $10.00 - If I were *travelling*
that'd be worth it (I'd be covered with roaming, etc), but since I'm
experiencing this problem directly in my city, I'm wondering if there's any
way SPCS would bend and either give me *some* roaming minutes free, or maybe
this add-on free?
We're spending easily $160.00 a month between the two phones as it is, and
before my wife signed on, I was a customer for six years (I cancelled when
she signed up, and we got a share plan under her name).
Basically, I know that SPCS isn't going to offer their package with 50%
usage for $5.00 here (which I'd gladly pay in a heartbeat), but like I said,
paying $10.00 for 100 minutes (that I'm going to be using *in my city*) to
me, seems a bit ludacris.
I've spoken with a few neighbors, and they've told me they are having the
same problems with their SPCS phones. There is a tower right across the
street from our home (I don't know who's it is, so it's probably
irrelevant). When I had Verizon I didn't experience these problems, but I
went to SPCS as their pricing and phone selection was far more superior to
that of VZW's.
If anyone may know a way I can convince SPCS to 'hook me up' so to speak in
light of this situation, I would be most grateful.
Thanks

Re: Free & Clear America Questions
You are going to be caught in a Catch-22. SPCS corporate can do nothing for
you as you are in an affiliate market. Alimosa has given you their final
offer of $10/100 mins. They don't care that you want a better offer, they
don't have to deal with you on Customer Service-go into a store and they
will point to the phoine and tell you to call corporate SPCS. This a dirty
little secret about SPCS-the affiliates just have to sell you your phone and
air time, provide the actual operational air interface, but don't have to
deal with you on a question or complaint. Go look at the tower-it just may
list the carrier, that would be the choice for service at your home.

Have you called up SPCS and asked to open a trouble ticket yet? If you
haven't, I'd recommend doing that.

Re: Free & Clear America Questions
I just got off the phone with CS about 3 minutes ago; came here to check
replies.
They are telling me that they have no reports of any outages in my area (the
rep was actually pretty firm, and unwilling to give me any further
assistance).
She just asked me told hold, came back about 90 seconds later, and said
"there are no issues in your area".
I asked her about the F&CA options and she told me its 10.00 for 100 minutes
(per phone), which would bounce our bill up another 20.00 (and allow us so
kindly to use our phones @ home -- but for 20.00 a month, I'll pass).

If they won't give you the f&ca in your area, why not be a little
creative, and change your service address, to a native sprint area,
maybe you have a relative in a city that has sprint,( this keeps you
from paying a cancelation charge) or get a temp mail box, unless having
an out of town cell number bothers you--with the on line bill paying
you could on line billing, etc--once you get the out of town service,
get the f&ca $5 deal--just be sure that not more than 50% is
roaming--There may be other creative solutions.
I had a reception problem around the first of Dec which lasted for a
month--c/s listend, and took a trouble ticket for me--The problem
finally got solved, but I don't know how or etc--had to be trouble
for more folks than me--but I never got a call, email etc--but I
threatened to cancel my service, and retention have me a bunch more
minutes, which I really couldn't use till problem was fixed--
I love those trouble tickets---my poor reception really pissed me off
one day, and I called them for about the 5th time in 10 days--and they
offered to fill out another trouble ticket--so I ask if the first one
or two had done no good till then, exactly what did they expect the
additional ones to do..that's when I got retention----I even wrote
them a letter to the London, Ky address---I bet that got filed in the
delete bin also--but, as I mentioned, I got the extra minutes and now
I an use part of them--Oh, by the way, when you roam on analog, the
phone battery really runs down fast--I began to think I had a bad
phone as the thing stayed warm, when not in use--had signal bars, but
could not lock the signal or something, which also runs down
battery---found some interesting posts explaining what was happening.
good luck.

Abso-****ing-lutely. I'm getting REAL tired of a customer=20
winding up on the line with me, calling for the fifth or=20
tenth or whatever time, and they're all but begging me not=20
to reset their Vision password and tell them to wait two=20
hours again.
Just tonight, I had a guy, added a third phone to his=20
account, and his first two phones stopped being able to use=20
Vision. Actually, he'd bought two new phones for those=20
lines. Three weeks ago. Four notes PER PHONE of reps=20
resetting the Vision password. Or of telling him to change=20
it on the web site and wait four hours. Good Lord. The=20
phone swap never propagated to the Vision system, so it=20
kept trying to keep the old phones provisioned.
I did what I needed to do, a deprovision/reprovision (yeah,=20
I warned him about messages and address books being=20
deleted) on both lines. And then I saw that there was=20
going to be about a 90 minute wait. I always apply a fudge=20
factor to account to queue variations, and told the guy=20
he'd need to wait 2 hours.
Again.
Doesn't take a psychic to guess his response. I got it=20
fixed for him, in the end. Now he's promised us a call-
back to sing my praises.
I really don't care if he does. He knows what I=20
accomplished, and he loves that it worked. Good enough for=20
me. I just wish more of us thought so, too.

Re: Free & Clear America Questions
I guess you will have to keep pressuring Sprint PCS to pressure
Alamosa PCS to improve coverage.

Hmmm, the rep didn't initiate a trouble ticket and collect the information
on your coverage problem? Call one more time, and request to give a trouble
ticket ... Provide the addresses, or cross streets where you are
experiencing the problem. Once all the information is given, get the trouble
ticket number from the rep.
Or, you can do it via email from your manage page. You will get an email
back, with a customer incident number to reference in the future.
Last, you can contact Alamosa directly from this web page -
http://tinyurl.com/2qqq8 , and ask for customer support or a technician.
