#1 | | Guest | Hello,
Ever since I got my Treo 600, it has not been able to turn itself off
when it is charging. Even though, I have the setting "turn off after 1
minute", it stays on all night when I have it plugged in and charging!
It will NOT turn off when it's plugged in. I don't know if some
setting transfered over from my Sony Clie when I first did a sync to
tranfer the data over from my Clie to the Treo.
Is there a way to fix this? If not will this hurt the Treo if the
screen stays on overnight when charging?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, I'm not at all familiar with your model, nor do I understand why your
phone won't shut off. What happens when you shut down the phone and then
plug it in the charger? Will it stay off?
One more thing, all of the new cell phones have a setting under the Display
settings on how long to have the backlight on. How long is yours set for?

#3 | | Guest | Have you tried a soft reset?
Can you turn it off when not in the charger?

Waitasec, you mean that when you press the display-off button (the far
right-hand button to the right of the navigation ring) the display
doesn't turn off? | | | |

#5 | | Guest | I have the setting that the display is suppose to turn off after 1
minute. When I am charging the phone and press the display-off
button; the display will stay off for about 1 minute and stay on while
I have it charging. I tried a soft rest, didn't work. I think a hard
rest may work but when I do that I seem to lose all of my todo's. Any
suggestions?
Thanks

#6 | | Guest | Hard reset won't do any good. My Treo 600 does this as well. Very
annoying...

Very odd. Mine does NOT do this. If it's on the charger/synch cable,
and I press the display button, the display goes off and stays off.
I don't suppose the recent firmware upgrade has any effect on this, does
it? I didn't see any behavior change between the "before" and "after"
firmware upgrade situations.

#8 | | Guest | Mine did this at one time - can't recall which program was causing it
(since I try so many-then discard them)
However thought it was one of the Treo Add on programs that had to
constantly check the status (network ?), so it had to wake up the Palm
to do so.

So, there is no resolution to this in the thread - anyone else out
there know about this? I experience the same problem. To clarify -
if the screen is off when I put it on the cradle, it stays off. If I
press the screen off button (to the right) while it is on the cradle,
it goes off and stays off. If it is NOT on the cradle and an alert
comes up, it turns off in one minute. These examples all make sense.
Here's the problem, though...
If it is on the cradle (charger) and an alert comes up, the screen
will stay on indefinitely. I don't want to be forced to manually turn
off the screen each time this occurs. This is frustrating, bad for
the screen and can be disturbing when it occurs overnight (my cradle
is close enough to bed to be rather bright in the dark).
Any help?

No really good fix, but one workaround is if the alerts are wireless
alerts you might consider turning off wireless overnight.
