I need to buy two new phones to replace my crappy N400s.

What is the best flip phone for voice and vision currently available?

    Thanks in advance.

I am partial to the 5300's other's to the 8100's
Please use GOOGLE to search the recent past (say last 3 months) in this
    group as there has been:
    - Plenty of discussion
    - Lots of good 'links' to stories / references
To allow you to draw you own conclusions...

Let me copy and paste the excellent information John Gill
contributed when I asked this question:

    IMHO....
8100 beats the 5300 in browser speed....(but supposedly the lastest sw level

5300 beats the 8100 as a camera.... More features.
In my opinion, the 8100 is a 'cheaper' version of the 5300!

Use Google groups and search from prior discussions on this issue....
This link should get you most of the 'threads'

Sure I could sit here after 90 days of use and 'nit-pick' at the 5300, but
all-in-all, a GREAT phone, and I picked it over the 8100.

As for 'issues', I would just recommend coming up to date on SW and PRL as
soon as you get any phone!

I don't understand the difficulty in deciding between the Sanyo 8100 and
    5300 as a camera phone.

Oscar didn't ask about a camera phone. Thus the Sanyo 5400 (RL2500)
would be best as a flip phone. It replaces the camera with a good size 1
inch speaker, probably the best speaker phone out there for a SprintPCS
    phone.

Depending on the use within his family, he might want to use the
ReadyLink (RL) feature of the Sanyo 5400, or save money, not use RL,
and turn off the RL capability and extend battery life to a more normal
    multiday period.

The best one out there is the Sany VM4500.

The gentleman didnt ask for a camera phone.

The RL2500 is essentially the same phone for much less money
as it doesn't have a camera built in.

The Sanyo 5500, also called the "VM 4500" by Sprint.

Only been out for about two months. It's hands down the best flip phone
    for Sprint PCS.

I have both the nokia and the Sanyo 8100. The nokia is best for a solid
    signal

You strongly underestimate the value of the SMS functions=20
    of the VM4500, then.

Based on the feedback I'm seeing, customers want that new=20
service, and very, very much so.

Then why is SprintPCS dragging its feet bringing out that Service
which you personally had told us was coming out in December??

No, he didnt ask about a camera phone, he asked about the best flip phone. The Sanyo 5500 is the best flip phone.

The Sanyo 5500 is the Sanyo VM4500, a cameraphone, for which one would
pay an extra $100. The Sanyo 5400 (aka RL2500) is the same phone without
a camera and costs $100 less, and weighs less too; and is the best flip
phone when one does not want a camera phone or cost is a consideration.

Not to be a smart*** but, NO KIDDING!?!?!?!? I already knew that seeing how I own one.

    #1 Sanyo 5500 w/camera and video

    #2 Sanyo 5400

    #3 Sanyo 8100

My opinion how they should be ranked.

The only one without a camera, but with speaker phone capability is the
the 5400/RL2500. So if someone wants a flip phone with speakerphone for
the best price there is only one. The Sanyo 5400/RL2500

I'm not saying the 8100 is the best phone, but it is the best phone
out of all the phones I've used over the years. Sounds good, and holds
a signal better than any phone I've had. Camera is mediocre, but I
    could care less.
