Disable the startup/shutdown song?

I have a Samsung VGA1000. Is there any way I can silence
the stupid song that plays when I power it up or down?

Also, the boot up process takes an awfully long time compared
to my previous phone, Samsung 8500. Any way to shorten it?

if it's the same as the A500:
settings/sounds/power on-off (set to off)
(you may have to scroll down to get to this setting at the bottom)

Menu
9-settings
2-sounds
3-alerts
5-power on/off

Yes, it does take a long time to power on/off.
