SprintPCS will be happy to charge you for Vision, and then $1.50 each or
so for Ringtones that are only good for 3 months.
Many folks download their own, and in somecases from Websites that are
free or just ask for a one-time donation. SnapMedia (by FutureSoft) is
software that allows Sanyo (and other phones) to connect to a PC, edit
ringers and wallpaper, and then download it to your phone. Rather than
buy an obsolete version at RadioShack, and pay $31.45 plus sales tax, I
found the software for $29.99 for immediate download at Sanyo's web
site. It was version 1.19, 13 versions newer than the 1.6 that my Local
Radio Shack had. The only gotcha is to make sure you plug in the cable
with the phone off, and Install USB Drivers before you install the
SnapMedia software.

For ringtones:
http://www.3gupload.com/
has been recommnded by many.
One also needs a USB cable to connect their phone to their PC.
FutureSoft sells them for $29.99, I got an equally good one for $9.99

Excuse me, ye of little brain- version 1.6 would be newer than 1.19. I
guess we add version identification to the long list of things you suck at.

You moron. It has already been discussed *several* times that the
expiration date only reflects when it expires from your locker for
download. As long as you don't delete it from your phone, the ringtone
or screensaver will stay on your phone forever.

Ya, ya --- lets get back to last week's question Phil, which was why did you
return to Sprint? We're all interested to know what it was that brought you
back.
(get used to it --- or get gone)

For many folks that amounts to the same thing since for instance, a
Sanyo RL2500 can only hold 3 downloaded ringers at a time, and a typical
user might want to be swapping ringers regularly; but after 3 months a
purchased SprintPCS ringer would no longer be available.
Thus as is typical of so many blind Sprint PCS apologists, your insult
was uncalled for. The 3 month issue is a factor.

Re: Ringers and Pictures on Sanyo phones
if you can not download it gain after 3 months then to me that is the same
thing as it being GONE after three months.
remember you have limited SPACE on that phone.
thats why I use 3gupload and similar sites. nothing expires I can reupload
whenever I want.

Yes, that is correct. I was just stating that the ringers/screensavers
you download from Sprint do not expire from your phone unless you delete
them. The way Phillipe had worded it made it sound that you have no
access to them at all after three months and that they would disappear
from your phone.
I, too, used to use 3gupload and I found it to be a very valuable
resource.

FYI - these "free" ringers, screensavers, applications have several
faults to them.,
1) Downloading free ringers - you're using someone else's copyrighted
materials for yuor own purposes without paying them for it. It's on
the same level as Kazaa, Napster, and what the RIAA is going after
everyone for.
2) *NONE* of these have been tested nor approved by the respective
carriers. They can cause serious issues, people have already written
viruses (virii?) for cel phones. But no, I'm sure you'll spurt out
"it's impossible". Well, it is very possible, and I see it.
Personaly, I don't care if you download from whatever site you
download from, just don't come crying to me if your download screwed
up your phone.

First their is no real legal recourse. Second I am betting something of this
nature and quality level falls well within the bounds of the betamax
decision and fair use.
third midi's for the most part are public domain.
thirdly since most people use the private locker to upload their OWN stuff
so long as they own license to the copy of the file they are making (IE
ripping it from your already owned cd etc..) it is WELL within fair use and
legality.
Lets not get on the riaa side of this issue. that side really pisses me off
and steams me up. short clippits (such as the 20-30 seconds things) WE USE
for cell phones are EXPLICITELY mentioned in FAIR USE law governing personal
use.

Who cares. Viruses in this manner are NOT possible. midi and wav files are
NON executable. they are passive files and you CAN NOT GET A VIRUS FROM A
PASSIVE FILE I do not care WHAT you think you know or have been told.
people always tried to say what about macro doc files. well THAT is no
longer a PASSIVE FILE. it now has ACTIVE "executable" functuionality.
people say what about the xxx'sbittits.jpg I got. WRONG again you mean you
were a dumb ass and click on a file called xx'sbigtits.jpg.exe (double
extension)
unless the file is .exe .bat .pif .doc* .vs .vbs .com and a few others it
CAN NOT GIVE YOU A VIRUS.
it must be an "active" file IE a file that can execute CODE on your machine.
since mid and wav are NOT active files you CAN NOT GET A VIRUS FROM THEM.
this myth needs to DIE.
NOW if you download a java app to your phone THAT can give you a virus
theoretically. it is executing instructions on your computer.

It won't
DO be careful download PROGRAMS for your phone. but ringers and screensavers
are PERFECTLY safe if you use your stinking brain.
this means if you click to download a ringer and it gets put in your
PROGRAMS well DUH it was not a ringer DON't Open it :-)
