Is there a phone that anyone can recommed for someone that has less than
perfect hearing. My Dad's hearing is below average at best and there is no
way we can get him to wear a hearing aid. I'm looking into replacing his
current cellphone. It doesn't need to be fancy or have color or a camera or
the ability to get to the internet. We just need something that has real
good sound quality on calls. I'm not looking for the best bargain -- but the
best quality regardless of the price. Is there one brand of phone or do the
    bluetooth
    headsets help at all? Thanks

Bluetooth makes it more convienent to wear a headset, SprintPCS is not
selling any Bluetooth phones currently, having just run out of T608's.

I know of no carrier that makes a cell phone specially with a hard of
hearing person in mind. Any of the ReadyLink phones SprintPCS is
currently selling by Sanyo are good phones, that in speaker phone mode
with their relatively large speakers might be better for your father.

I'd suggest calling your local SprintPCS store and finding a time when
they're less busy so your father could try out some different phones.

I sympathsize with what you're going through. We had similar issues with
my mother. I just got to the point where I refused to repeat what I said
and raise my voice. Inside 6 weeks, my mother had agreed to a hearing
aid. She doesn't have or want a cell phone so we've never had your
issue. There are a few wired phones with a button on them to increase
volume for someone with hearing difficulty, but again I know of nothing
like that in the cell phone world. That addresses loudness, allegedly
GSM technology (used by T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T) everything else being
equal can provide slightly better voice clarity on a call than CDMA
technology (used by Sprint and Verizon). Again, I'd recommend you have
your father test out handsets, rather than depending on advice from
anyone, as no one else has his ears.

There are 2 components,. I feel to your request:
    A) The phone itself
    B) The overall signal Sprint signal strength in the area you will use it in.

I am saying that, because if you are in a marginal signal area, no Sprint
phone will overcome a marginal signal!

As for the phone, the best bet is to TRY them.. try them in the store
    especially under noisy conditions.

My only recent phone experience is with Sanyo 5300 and I would say ..STAY
    AWAY, for you purposes.
This phone tends to have a 'sweet spot'. for best hearing, which probably
would not be best here either...

Another thought for this situation is a small wired headset....
    Or get the 'bluetooth' solution....
But my personal thoughts on 'bluetooth' is that it is an 'emerging'
    technology....
And you know how you can tell the pioneers???? By the arrows in their
    backs!!!

My Sanyo 8100 volume is so loud, I have to keep it on the second from
    the lowest of eight settings.

    Re: Sound Quality on phone

I have a problem with the sound quality(not volume) with my Sanyo 8100 so I
researched this subject myself and this is what I concluded: with Sprint,
get a Sanyo 5500 or with another carrier, get a Motorola V60.
    Good luck

I have found that the Sanyo phones have very loud ear pieces you might
    want to go that way.

If he's willing to go with a headset, the "Body Glove Pro" headset is
very loud (I used to have to keep it on the lowest setting and it was
still loud). I think it's selling for about $25 or $30.

THat may be a good route to go since it will also put the source of
the sound very close to his ear.
