I need to find a cable that will let me send the pictures from my
handset VGA1000 (A620) to my PC, presumably via USB.

Sprint does not have these, neither does Radio Shack. This is the only
thing that seems to come close, but I'm not sure:

They claim to be able to send data *to* the handset; is this a one way
    trip?

I don't need to sync my address book, play around with ringtones, etc.
Just photos from handset to PC. WAP 2.0 did not really impress me that
much, so when my free period of PCS Vision was up, I had the service
    deprovisioned.

    Thanks,

Various versions of the cable are sold all over the Internet, for as little
as $15. Your difficulty will be in finding software to transfer photos from
the phone to your computer. Here is a thread that includes testimony from
people who say that they have done so successfully on the VGA1000:

What's with the cookies on this site? I just did a sweep on my HD with
Ad-Aware, cleaned out all the data mining cookies, clicked on the above
link, then another sweep with Ad-Aware, and got another tracking cooking ...
