Unfortunately, I don't believe the 8100 or the 5300 have that ability built
in. One could do that with a 2G phone, by switching to a data call protocol,
but not on the 3G Sanyos. What you might need to do is use one of the online
Fax services available over the web.

I have the 5300, which basically has similar firmware loaded up and there is
no fax option. If anyone does know how to send a fax directly through a 3G
Sanyo phone tethered to a laptop, please feel free to speak up.

Although I haven't tried it faxing should work. I have read here that you
have to disable the feature on the PC (or laptop) so it doesn't wait for a
dial tone. You do need software to use the phone as a modem AND other
software for faxing. Windows 2000 and XP have fax software already built in
though it is cumbersome to use.

For cell software I use datapilot and it works nice with my 8100.

I looked at Datapoint's site, and nowhere do I see where one can do faxing.
I noticed the example where they showed dialing up to SPCS via the #777,
which gets you into Vision. Now, when booting up IE, one can fax through any
    number of online fax services.

Are you saying that you are calling the fax number to your client (i.e. 10
digit dialing), and sending a fax to directly to them? I didn't see that
capability listed on Datapoint's site, nor did I see any comments about
    faxing.
