Hi I hope this is a good place to post this, if not, let us know. We just
got our T600 with SprintPCS and it seems like a nice little box. We need
real email and here is what we are doing - sure could use some advice.
I do wish that the Treo had real email (like our old Visor) that we could
fully synch the contents of our Outlook 2003 WITH emails etc. dang.... that
said... here goes....
We use XP Pro and Office 2003 - We have POP3 accounts with several ISP. We
do not use IMAP, or any email server stuff like exchange etc.
Our needs are modest - Need be able to receive/send/create email from the
T600 and when at the PC to fully synch the emails back and forth
accordingly.
We were looking at this thing called Sprint BC-PE - And we can find very
little info about it, Can someone clarify if this is a correct perception --
BC is a sprint webserver.. the T600 logs to it, the BC server goes to the
personal PC etc and retrieves stuff? We not need nor would we allow BC to
have access to a desktop due to confidentially issues and that our LAN is
behind a dynamic IP. Just seems overly complicated.
Anyway, we just need a means to be able sensibly handle our email - and
really would like it to be an intregal part of the hotsynching stuff.
Appreciate any feedback, suggestions and hopefully we are not screwed on
this apparent oversight.
Thanks

Try Eudora.

No, don't bother trying Eudora. It doesn't work properly on the Treo
600 (I sure wish that it would, though!).
Go get the beta email application from Handspring. Start at the PalmOne
support page for Treo 600 at
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/treo/treo600sprint/
At the bottom left is a link to the "palmOne beta POP3 Mail application".
When configuring your accounts, don't get spooked by the fact that they
have predefined the mail services they support. Go ahead and say that
you're using "AT&T", for instance. When you're finished entering
everything you can enter for a new account, go back and edit the
account, and you'll find that you can change the domain names of the
POP3 and SMTP servers to whatever you need.
I've also heard good things about SnapperMail, but I haven't tried it.
It costs $30-$50, depending on the version you buy.

Re: Treo 600 Email/Synching/ and ??
Try the freebie email app from PalmOne for the T600. That's the one I use.
I can access multiple POP3 accounts, although one at a time. The main
feature missing for me is that it won't delete messages from the server that
I flag for deletion. In other words, the same 10 messages that I download
to the T600, also get downloaded to Outlook when I connect from my PC.
Normally I like this, except for spam. I wish I could say "delete from
server."
My guess is that some of the non-freebie email softwares (eudora, snapper,
and others) give you this feature. I'm just too cheap I guess. So for now
I continue to use PalmOne's software, and it works fine for me.
I also have Sprint BC/PE and it works OK, but I don't like it as much as the
freebie PalmOne applet. To be honest, I haven't looked too much into the
BC/PE application.
