Wavs and MP3s to Sanyo 8100, Hitachi P300?

Is there software that can upload WAVs and MP3s as ringers to the
aforementioned phones? I know both can PLAY audio clips as ringers.

I have a program called Ringtone Converter (http://www.codingworkshop.com,
cost me under $20, great investment) that lets me compose ringtones and
convert between different formats, but it only does MIDI and some of the
standard monophonic formats. While it will let me download, say, a ringer
in Nokia format and convert it to KWS for my Kyocera phone,* it doesn't
do anything with audio clips.

My mother-in-law has an 8100 and does not want to pay for ringers, and there
are plenty of sites where they can be downloaded for free. She's willing to
invest in a data cable. I just need to find software...

And I want to do the same thing with our P300.

Any help is appreciated.

*Why Nokia? ...because there are about a million free Nokia sites out there...

If she's willing to pay at least 9 bucks for a cable, then she can go over
to 3gupload.com, "Donate" the 5.99 necessary to be a downloadable member,
then send all the ringers she wants to her phone forever afterwards. Even
if she's not on an unlimited Vision plan, it's still cheaper than a cable
and software.

Outstanding idea, Kenny. What about gadget freaks like me who have a
mic and software that can create wav/mp3 files and want to create their own
ringers?

I will forward your suggestion to my MIL.

Use the sprintusers.com "Focus Uploader".

But, with the data cable and Quick Time Pro you can download all you want
and dump them into the phone without paying the $5.99, which is falsely
represented as being free.

The price & product that you are quoting deal with Snapsync ... not
Snapmedia, which is the software to transfer pics & ringtones.

Snapmedia is selling for $31.49 on line, and no mention of the cable.
http://tinyurl.com/2wcco

Snapsync is selling for $41.99 and is offering a cable (in store sales
only), however that product deals with syncing your phone book.

They are not *free*; you have to pay for the software to get one.

You sound like you work in marketing.

He said "free", not "free with the purchase of another product".

What a bargain (not)! Data cables can be had for $9, and the SnapDialer
software is unnecessary if you want to use your phone as a modem.

This has probably already been answered, but the basic idea is that=20
the voice ringers on SPCS phone are all in a .qcp format created=20
using a Qualcomm "Purevoice" application. I'm not sure if that=20
applies outside SPCS. I've created several myself using the=20
instructions posted at 3GUpload. Here's the basic idea: Convert the=20
MP3 to WAV. Convert the WAV to the proper bit level, Hz sampling=20
rate, and stereo format (I *think* this is 8 KHz, 16 bit, stereo, but=20
the exact settings are at 3GUpload). Once it's in that format,=20
Qualcomm provides a free "PVConverter" that converts the WAV file to=20
..qcp format. Then you can use 3GUpload or any of other sites that=20
permit uploads to one's own phone.

I would suppose this works over a data cable, too, but have never=20
tried that since using a site like 3GUpload requires no such cable.

It *is* free.

There are some extra functions available if you donate, and I think=20
it's worth the donation, but the donation is *not* required to upload=20
a personal file and then to download it via 3GUpload's locker.

There is a rather detailed write-up for G2 phones using Wireless Web:
http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/sch-8500/

I haven't seen a similar website write-up for G3 (Vision) phones, but the details
have been posted to this newsgroup many times.
