    Hello all!!

I need some advice on a new phone.

I currently have a Sanyo 4900 with a cracked screen; I'm looking to
replace it with a phone that has the ability to hold a signal like the
4900. I live in an area where other phones (e.g. Samsung N400, LG 5200,
etc...) don't get signal very well and this has been the best phone I've
had so far that will get good signal and hold it where I live. I would
also like a phone with a pretty decent battery life.

What phone would you all recommend?

Can't you get a discount on a new phone if you haven't replaced one in a
certain amount of time? How can you tell how long it has been since you
    replaced a phone?

I'm currently in month 6 of a 2 year contract and have been with Sprint
for around a year and a half.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Either check on eBay for another Sanyo 4900, or get a Sanyo RL2500 and
    turn ReadyLink off.

18 months with the same phone that was purchased from Sprint, and you
get as a mail-in rebate any instant rebate they give new customers.

I think the 5400 advise is good. If you don;t need a camera, it's
great--but the camera on the 5500 is a great toy.

    I have owned and used the sanyo 4700, 4900, 5300, 5400, 5500, and a
7300 for a couple of days. These last ones are all superior to the
early ones, as fasr as just the phone operation is concerned (although
the 4700/4900 are still great) . The resell value for a r/l phone
would probably be greater too--and the reverse is also true, there are
some real bargains on ebay, for the non camera non r/l phones--

There are numerous good ebay auctions pricds for the 5400; the only
fault I have found with it is that you will need the extended battery
to be equal to the 4700/4900 talk time. The camera on the 5500 with
the video is far superior to the 5300, which is always hunting for a
analog signal in the fringe area--the firmware update may help on that
    I have read.

You could also still enroll on the ext equipment replacement
program--all they ask is that you can receive a call and the $35.00.

Another thing, is that a used phone does not re set the 18 month timer
for sprint discount on the next new phone, or so that posts here
    indicate.

I have also owned samsungs in the past--but have found the sanyo's
seem to be better on several issues.. I keep reading they are
improving, haven't had one for a while
    only my .02 cents.

The only Samsung cell phones worth considering IMHO are the Palm Phone
Samsungs, for those that might want a Palm Phone.

That's what I have read, but has anyone really had any *long term* use
of say the 1000 or the current camera model I believe 600 or
something--I miss the unlimted 1 to 3 touch dial of the samsungs, but
I prefer a phone to make a call when I need it, and I am in sort of a
fringer area, where the old sams were really un reliable. There are a
lot of favorable posts on howard about he toshiba model;but when I
tried one in the store, it seems too big and didn't have the quality
feel of the sanyo 5400/5500. The sams looked and felt good, but pat
    experience made me wary.
