    Ron,

Trust me the chart is legit. It's made up of Sprint's own info
regarding brand and ESN performance of each phone. It was made by a
Sprint switch technician. For some reason the chart has been pulled
off the web as of yesterday. Sorry I didn't post it sooner. It used to
    be at this URL:

    http://www.topherinfo.com/manufacturer_report.asp

Just because Verizon promotes Motorola doesn't mean they are good
Sprint phones. Different carriers use different network equipment
(Nortel, Lucent, Alcatel, etc.) That could be where the problem lies I
don't know. There could be other reasons why they don't perform as
    well on Sprint.

If you want send me a private e-mail and I can send you a copy of one
of those graphs that I saved to my computer.

Again still don't beleive it. How would a Sprint guy have CDLs for
phnes that have not been sold in years? Also, the technicains don;t
have access to cross-reference the ESN to the model. That would
require someone in the Network operation center (NOC) and billing
access. Don;t think those guys are going to be doing that. In the
MTSO (Mobile Telephone Switching Office) they can get access to the
    CDL but that is it.

Tell you what, how about I make up some numbers and post them; I can
pretend to be a Sprint tech too?

BTW The big providers all use a mix of all three major vendors
(Motorola, Nortel, and Lucent) for infra-structure. Nextel was until
recently exclusive Motorola and OBTW in case you have heard of KDDI
(the one that is kicking b-tt) in Japan, they are exclusive Motorola
    too.

If you want I can make up a few charts and post them (just like the
    mystery website)

It was maybe 1 year ago, best rep among what peers? The LG and other
cheap phone Sprint used to carry?

Have you seen the new Motorola vision phones that are coming out?
BTW when you say stand up are you talking features or quality. I'll
get the low end Motorola V60 when it comes out because presumalby it
will ge a signal when the Sanyo and Samsungs can't. In 4Q when the
higher end phone are out I sell it (ebay) and get a vision phone

Ron, it's a bit apparent that you are a Moto fan, but I doubt whether a Moto

    Bob

Given that I have had the opportunity to do a side-by-side, on
Sprint's network, with my Moto TimpPort against Sanyo and Samsung in
Scottsdale AZ and Seattle WA, my "bias" has a bit of foundation.

Tell you what, meet me around Pinnacle Peak & Dobson in Scottsdale AZ
with your Sanyo, I'll bring my old Timeport and we will see who gets
service. Care to make a wager?

BTW After the side-by-side you could claim that my TimpePort dropped
more calls than the Sanyo..... just don't tell anyone that the Sanyo
    had ZERO originated calls.

BTW the features on the new Moto V400 look pretty appealing to me.
The advantage Sanyo has is that you can buy one now (on Sprint) and
will have to wait 6 months for a v400.

You can believe what you want to believe but the chart is real and it
is a fact that Motorolas are the worst Sprint phones by far. The
person is a legit Sprint employee who DOES work in the Network
Operations Center. I know him and he's not making anything up. The
info comes directly from Sprint and is based on dropped call
statistics for each of Sprint's phones. It makes no difference if the
models haven't been sold in years. As long as there are still enough
of them being used they can get the statistics for them. The chart I
showed you was only a one week sample. There is another chart that
shows the averages for the past 3 years. Same result. Motorolas are at
the very bottom. Sanyos at the top. It might be tough for some of you
to swallow but it's hard to dispute evidence like that.

It's absolutely ridiculous to think Motorolas can outperform Sanyos as
a whole. Sanyos are much better phones. Motorolas drop calls over 100%
more often than Sanyos do. I used the Star Tac 7867 for almost a year
and it was the worst phone I've ever used on Sprint's network. I was
so glad to get rid of it.

Given that Sprint wasn't selling Motos for a while and has been selling Sanyos
all along, and given that Sanyo seems to have a real good rep amongst the
newsgroupies here and other Sprint customers I've talked to, I'd buy a Sanyo.
OTOH, I am known to be prejudiced against Motorola. (Evidence is over in the
    Verizon newsgroup

Now here's an interesting point. I had a GTE Wireless StarTAC 7760 (dual
band 800 MHz CDMA and AMPS) back in 1999. It held a signal well, call quality
was good, but fit and finish absolutely sucked. I can't speak to the quality
of Sprint StarTACs at the time, though.

I do know a number of people who had StarTAC 7868s on Alltel and Verizon
subsequently, though, and didn't have the problems I did.

In fairness to Moto, the quality of the newer models is *probably* better
than some of the crap that came out around then.

Actually what is "absolutely ridiculous" is your statement that is
based on what? That you owned one Motorola phone? How many years ago?

Just curious why is, do you think, that the #1 provider (Verizon)
doesn't sell any Sanyo phones but will promote Motorola in their ful
page ads? One would think if your claim was true they would immediatly
stop selling Motorola since users drop providers when they their
    service isn't up to par?

BTW If you go to Jag, BMW, or Mercedes and ask for the Telematics
package take a guess what phone they are going to install? Hint first
letter starts with an "M". Amazing that the top tier provider
(Verizon) and the top end automakers all insist on pushing a product
you claim to be substandard yet do not offer any Sanyo products which
    you claim to be superior?

Who other than Sprint even carries Sanyo? They are not offered by

That's easy. Sanyo has an exclusive contract to manufacture phones for Sprint.

    It's not the same situation.

    > BTW If you go to Jag, BMW, or Mercedes and ask for the Telematics

Ron, I am a customer of both Sprint and Verizon and I can tell you that
certain Verizon handsets made by Motorola were absolute crap. The biggest
debacle was the Verizon T720. Check Google Groups for reports of problems
    with the T720 (in alt.cellular.verizon).

Motorola is no longer *always* synonymous with quality, and in fact, I refuse
to buy their phones. They're not worth the premium price you will generally
pay to use them. This is not to say that all of their stuff is junk, but I've
seen enough problems that I won't buy Moto handsets.
