#1 | | Guest | Ok. Here's the situation. I used to have the Samsung a620. It was working
fine for the most part, until I moved to another part of town. Since I've
moved the phone was unusable at least 90% of the time, in and around the
neighborhood where I live (Searching For Service/No Service).
I contacted AlamosaPCS (since I'm in an affiliate market, and figured it'd
be better to contact them). They told me to take my phone in to get tested
(my wife also is having the same problems with her Sanyo 8100).
We took the phones in. Both failed the communications tests or something
along those lines. They replaced her 8100 with a new 8100, and mine with a
Sanyo RL2500 (they had no a620's in).
At the time I was told I could get the VM4500 if I was willing to pay
$100.00 (the difference in prices I guess) -- at the time, I didn't take
advantage of it, as I didn't want to put anymore money into something that
may not work still..
So it's been about 10 days since the phones were replaced, and still, having
the same problems, and actually my wife is having even more problems now
with her 8100.
Now, we've been told that we should add the free & clear option (the no
roaming feature) -- well that costs $10.00 for 100 minutes here (affiliate
markets suck) -- and quite honestly, I dont see why I need to pay 10.00 more
to use my phone at and IN my neighborhood (we're not talking about just IN
my house, we're talking about a good 1 - 1 1/2 mile area around the area) -
we are not in a fringe area either mind you.
When I had Verizon, I had no problems with coverage in this area, but we
went to Sprint as it was cheaper, and allowed us to have feature that cost
much more with Verizon..
I'm pretty much just trying to get a consensus as to what to do here. I want
to kind of cancel, but then I don't because I know that I can't get the plan
that I want with anyone else. Our neighbor also has Sprint and he says it's
just as bad for him. We've mentioned all of this to Alamosa as well.
We all rely on our phones, since we don't have landlines, as wireless meets
all of our needs (when it's useable).. So..
1) Should I try the VM4500 -- will it make any difference whatsoever (I know
its basically the same phone as the 2500, but just wondering if there would
be any difference).
2) What phone would be the BEST in regards to working well in this type of
situation? (I've heard that any Sanyo would be, yet I've also heard that the
Nokia would be the best for good RF).
3) Is there anything that I can do, in regards to getting out of my contract
(I know, I signed a contract, and I'm liable to meet it, I'm not trying to
get out just so I can get out - I feel that I have strong logic behind it -
they can't deliver service where I am, and yes, I realize coverage is not
guaranteed in all locations -- it's just a simple question in regards to
ending my contract).
That's pretty much all I could think of right now.. Just want to get some
ideas as to what to do at this point..
Thanks!

Sounds like you moved into a coverage hole. Have you filed a trouble ticket
with SPCS yet? If you haven't, you need to, and so does your neighbor.
Provide details as your neighborhood and surrounding areas on where coverage
is poor. You might have moved into an area where SPCS / Alamosa has had
difficulties in getting a new tower installed, because of community zoning
laws or NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) concerns.

It shouldn't make a difference, as the Sanyos have the best rep for holding
onto a signal.

It's been mentioned here, but as an equal to the Sanyos.

Well, coverage is not guaranteed, so you may be responsible for the
contract. If in fact you moved out of SPCS's / Alamosa's coverage area, you
may have grounds to get your contract cancelled.

Good luck, and don't forget to call CS (where you can make a call) and do
trouble ticket. | | | |

Demand to be let out of your contract if you dont get service where you
live. If they refuse write to your States Attorney general. If they cant
provide srvice you can't be held to contract (regardless of the fine
print they used). Very similar to what happened to Justin last year.

To be quite blunt about it, no. I don't think the VM4500, as=20
wonderful a phone as it is, will change what you're experiencing. =20
The problem has already crossed three different models. I don't=20
think there's any logical way to think the phone will make that much=20
difference in a situation like this.

The best? I think, in general, you're more likely to get good=20
reception from a non-flip phone like the Nokia, or perhaps the new=20
VI600, although I've yet to hear any feedback on how that works.
It's too bad there isn't a good-condition 4900 nearby. Even now,=20
that would likely be my recommendation.

Get it *documented*. Call *2 and demand a trouble ticket for lack of=20
service in your area. And then call again one week later. If they=20
can't resolve it within 7 business days... well... if a call like=20
that came into me, I'd waive the ETF.

Hopefully, my ideas are at least worth consideration.

THAT IS THE FIRST TIME YOU EVER SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
Please advise the readers what your instructions are for waiving ETFs.

As usual, Phillie, you've got the sequence of events exactly=20

Nice try. Anyone who had the misfortune of living through Justin's grief
with SprintPCS, knows you only compounded things by calling him a liar.
At least you no longer deny calling him a liar, but use a childish excuse
"HE DID IT FIRST". | | | | |
