Re: Sanyo 5500 (VM4500) and USB cable

I'm not going to use it in that fashion, for now, I'm just going to stick
with using it when I need to check something and the landline is in use by
someone else. I was just giving my situation for the 'perfect world' type
    scenario.

Whoever suggested that I should get the FD to pay for DirectWay was pretty
    funny.

Although I have no way of proving how much is too much, I'm in agreement
with Larry. 40 hours a month of Vision, with a phone tethered to a laptop,
is replacing an ISP. Even with just email, surfing and going on some forums,
that's a lot of KBs an hour, especially if the user goes to graphic
    intensive sites.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it'd sure be nice if Sprint would
just give us a small, yet reasonable, amount of "tethered Vision" included
    in the Vision package.

My biggest concern is that one day they'll say, "Enough is enough. We've
turned our heads, regarding small usage, but people are taking advantage."
and start charging for *every* bit of usage.

It depends. If the PC is constantly browsing (downloading new web =
    pages)
during those 4 hours, it could add up to a lot of megabytes. If it is =
    used
only sporadically during that 4 hour shift, then it should not be a =

That must be a rather recent requirement. Futuredial.com always used to
allow unfettered access to the USB drivers.

    Question...

While Sprint's voice connections are based on time, and their Vision
connections are based on the amount of data transferred, what happens
when the phone is used a modem?

Are we sure that connections are based on data and *not* time?

Yes, if you dial #777 it's a Vision data connection, which is charged by
the number of kilobytes downloaded (assuming you have no Vision pack =
    plan).
If you dial #2932 it's a Wireless Web data connection which is charged =
    by
minutes. I'm not sure if a Vision phone will even connect to #2932.

Who are you trying to convince he'll be nailed? Yourself?

Osiris said one he knew of getting nailed had used over 10 Gig a month.

Vision phones are capable of higher connection speeds, and far more
folks have reported pretty decent speeds than otherwise. However,
this kind of use of a Vision phone isn't supported. To use it that
way, with SPCS as your provider, will (if you get caught) get your
unlimited Vision pack removed, and then you pay that penny per KB I
mentioned above. For the wording that applies, look for "Terms &
Conditions" at the bottom of http://www.sprintpcs.com and then search
the page that pops up for "connection kit".

So far, the only customers I've seen enforced under this policy have
been obvious examples. One of them over 10GB in a month. Rumors
abound about where the limit is that gets attention. I'd do you a
disservice to add to those rumors, because that's all I have myself.
Just be aware of the consequences if you move to that Vision phone
    and do it.

If the phone has the capability to be used as a modem (not dialing into
#777), but dialed into another number, like a local pop, or a fax number,
it's going to be $0.39/min, including $0.25/min. LD if it's a LD call.

Now, in saying that, I don't know any current Vision phone, which can be
used as a modem. The pre 3G phones could by changing the setting from Voice
to Data or Fax. If anyone does know any Vision phones that can, please post
    the model #'s.

It's referred to as "We're having a discussion."

If you don't care to be involved, don't.

But you keep cutting out evidence to the contrary.

With a 5 GB/month current limit that equals 125 megabyte a day when used
20 days a month, or 30+ megabytes an hour when used 4 hours a day. The
SprintPCS network wont even transmit data that fast.

At a more typical 8 to 10 mgs an hour thats 800 Megs a month.

With my 2G Samsung 8500, there was no setting to be changed. It went
to data mode automatically when dialing #2932. I too would be
interested in knowing if any Vision phones can use the #2932 data
connection, and if so, how that would be charged.

My 3500 as well would go direct to data when dialing #2932.. But it also has
a setting where I can change it to Data / Fax from the settings screen.
