Has anyone else found that the data transfer rate/responsiveness of data
throughput to their Sprint PCS phone is alarmingly slow, like mine has been
for almost 2 years while using Sprint PCS? I can't send an email or browse
web pages from my phone, without getting into a five to ten minute ordeal.

Are there other cell phones that are much faster for data transfer?

Please tell us which model Sprint PCS phone you have, as some are better
at this than others. And are you asking about email/web on the phone's
own screen/keypad or on a computer connected to the phone by a cable?

    OK, I'm using a (2 year old) Samsung A500. I'm talking about email/web on
the phone's own screen being miserably slow, both to connect to the PCS
network and to do anything once it is connected. Usually, it spends 30
seconds or more just trying to establish its connection, let alone the
minutes and minutes I need to even check my email.

I can't figure out if it's my phone being so slow, the Sprint PCS network,
or both. And if I switch to a different provider/phone (Verizon? ATT?)
    Would this be much faster?

I have a Treo 600 that's horribly slow. I live in Houston, but I recently
visited the Detroit area, and it was equally as slow there.

Typically, I see long pauses of no data transfer (like 20-40 seconds) followed
by slow transfers of maybe 2 KB/second. I've used the web services several
dozen times, and the performance is always lousy. A strong signal seems to make
no difference in throughput. I've *never* seen data transfers that were not
    interrupted by long delays.

AFAIC, the web services on this phone are totally worthless. I'm inclined to
think the problem is not in the phone, since the Treo was very much intended to
    be web capable.

My understanding is that data takes a lower priority to voice. If true, and
you're in a busy area, data will be delayed while the system tries to
optimize voice quality for other users.

    Hello,

The following has been our experience with two different models of
    phones.

With the Samsung N400 using the OEM data cable connected to a Windows XP
professional laptop, the connection would be good by setting up a separate
dial up networking connection (dialing #777) and connecting to the VISION
network that way. When we attempted to use the PCS connection software, the
connection would be ultra slow and drop constantly.

The opposite was true for us with the Samsung A600. Using the PCS
connection software worked best while the dial-up networking connection
    constantly dropped or locked up.

It's very unlikely to be the phone. I have a Treo 600 on SPCS, here in
San Diego. I regularly get data rates between 50 and 150 kbps.
