    Hi a@b

http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/ .. is an open source solution. (free)

If you need a more friendly software .. you can but snapsync from
    http://futuredial.com/products/snapsync/P_SS.asp

I regularly use snapsync and it works just fine with my 4900 and MS
    Outlook.

I have installed bitpim .. and it was able to read the address book
from my phone .. I think there was an option to make changes and save
the address book .. but I did not do that ..

Bitpim is free, but it's a beta. Works very though for yours truly and my
Sanyo 5300. SnapSync is available for a charge, and Data Pilot by
susteen.com is also available and offers more options to their program.

Any tool that works without a cable to connect to a computer?

For syncing the phone book? I haven't heard of one. SPCS does offer
    http://www.sprintpcs.com/bizcon.html , but that's for accessing contacts,
emails, etc. off your company server or your laptop.
