I'll soon I'll be signing on with Sprint and have narrowed my choice
of phones to Nokia and Sanyo models. Which of the two is likely to
provide the greatest range? Other features are secondary. Thanks.

The sound on reception is better with the Nokia

For the most part, a Sanyo is going to outperform and outlast a Nokia.
Ever wonder why the free phones that providers give are Nokias much of
    the time?

My Nokia is 3 years old and running stront. I still have the 6585 and it
works well. There are many people who hate Nookuia and you have the right
to , However it is a great phone

An old Nokia 5160 has been in constant use here with another carrier
for almost 5 years and it works as good as the day I bought it, the
only maintenance cost being a battery replacement. It'll be retired
soon and based on information obtained here and elsewhere I believe
I'll go with another Nokia when I move to Sprint although I'm still
willing to reconsider based on the experiences of others. I have
family members who work for Cingular and Sprint however none of them
has used both brands of phones as you have which makes your first
response to my question valuable. I like the Sanyo styles better but
the durability of the Nokias will probably win out when I visit the
    Sprint dealer next week.

I think you've been given great information, basically. Sanyo phones
have a very strong loyal following within SprintPCS. But earpiece
clarity *has* been an ongoing disappointment, even on wildly popular
phones like the 8100 or the VM4500. I don't hear everyone complaining,
but those who bring it up have usually tried other models, too.

Since you say reception is prime in your considerations, I honestly
don't believe you can go wrong with either brand with what Sprint
offers. But to compare the two... I've never tried the Nokias myself,
    because I prefer flip phones.
