I just don't get the pre-ring "chirp-chirp" feature of the t608.
anybody know if that can somehow be switched off?

Isn't that part of one of the ringtones? If you change the ringtone,
it goes away, IIRC.

no, it's just there at the beginning of every ringtone. It's like the
phone is saying "I'm gonna ring in about 2 seconds -- be warned"

My 4900 did that, and it turns out I had something set on it to alert me
when a call in my phone book came in. Can't remember what it's called, but I
would look through the alerts menu and see if something is set to yes
instead of no.

I found the culprit!
My phone's ringer was set to 'ascending', so that was the first sound it
would make. I guess so you could answer it before it rings (if it was
sitting on your desk, etc..).
thanks for the suggestion. Poking around solves 90% of my problems
