Sprint just informed me that as of 10/2004, you cannot purchase equipment
protection plan unless you do so within 30 days of purchasing the new phone.

This was somewhat of a surprise since the phone is covered under
manufacturers warranty for one year. So you would be paying for double
coverage for a year except for theft coverage, which the manufacturers
    warranty would not cover.

Kind of a disappointment because my phone is nearing a year old, and I
wanted to cover it for damage, malfunction, theft, etc. If it goes bad now,
I guess my best option would be EBAY.

It's a ripoff. Sprint will *not* replace your phone with a similarly equipped
model. They'll replace it with the same phone they give away for free to
    new subscribers.

If you have any accessories such as a car charger, leather case, extra
batteries, etc., then the phone replacement plan is an especially bad ripoff
as you will not get an identical replacement. You'll get whatever sprint's
    ERP feels like sending you.

That's unfortunate because that is an expensive phone. Like any extended
warranty your taking your chances. Just replying to say that I totally
disagree with TCS's comments on the equipment replacement plan. When my
Sprint TP2200 failed, I got the exact same phone as a replacement. A year
or so after when the replacement failed I received a brand new Sanyo RL7200
(not given away free to new subscribers at the time) and I was thrilled at
getting it as an upgrade. I just recently had problems with the RL7200 and
they replaced it with a brand new Sanyo RL7300, it retails for $279 and
still costs $99 for new subscribers.

The replacement plan indicates that they have to give you a phone of like
kind and quality. They may TRY to give you something lower on the food
chain, but accepting that is up to you.

I've handled over a dozen replacements over three years for 20 users. Every
time, we have gotten _at_least_ the original PDA Phone we started with, and
in two cases out of 13, we got _better_ (SPH-i500 instead of the SPH-i330).

Perhaps you could source your allegations, and provide specifics?

    Thank you kindly.

As I am not the one having the problem, why would you explain the
    replacement plan procedure to me.

Certainly not MY experience. I had to use ERP once and got the exact
    some phone I had prior.

My mp3 player phone was replaced with a defective entry level phone that
couldn't keep the phone list sorted in alphabetical order. Ditto for it's
replacement. After the second phone I told them NOT to send me the same
defective model, so they sent me another. The only thing the replacement
phones had in common with my original phone was the brand name.

When I reported my experience in this newsgroup a couple of years ago,
I heard at least 4 similar horror stories.

Instead of spending $96 over two years, I would have been better off buying
    a $30 phone on ebay.

The one time I used it, since my model was no longer available, they
gave me a choice of three phones, and they replaced my accessories.

This may shock you, but just because YOU may have had a bad experience
at one point, that does not mean that everyone else will always have a
bad experience with the same group.

I talked with 6 ERP operators and they all said that they *never* replace
accessories. They said they couldn't if they wanted to; they don't keep
any in stock. The phones I received were stripped. They didn't even have
an instruction manual. Phone. Battery. Nothing else.

I sooner believe you're lying than 6 ERP service reps.

JFTR, Isaiah has a very good reputation here, and what he said was right on
.... Lots of folks have posted here, and have been able to get replacement
accessories, when a replacement phone was a different model to where the
original accessories wouldn't work.Just look what Jerome mentioned in this
    thread.

I'll take anything Isaiah says here, over any of your insults posted here.

    Re: equipment protection plan

I had a Q phone which I purchased from RadioShack, it came with a car
charger. I also purchased from Sprint PCS two extended batteries, and a
    leather case.
When I filed the insurance claim, they did not have any Q phones, so
they offered me a choice between a Touchpoint, a Samsung (which I chose)
and one other I don't recall. They also sent me a leather case, a car
charger and one extended battery, which was OK since the batteries
lasted a lot longer than the Q batteries.
