I would like to backup the phonebook on Samsung VGA1000.

I noticed on another post a note about Bitpim, then went to the site and
downloaded the latest version; also downloaded drivers from Futuredial site.
The Bitpim site listed the VGA1000 as a supported phone.

I have not yet installed Bitpim or the drivers; I only downloaded and saved
    them to disk.

I have a USB cable that I use to connect the Samsung occasionally to use the
Internet. It works fine using #777. Only rarely do I use it for Internet
    access.

    So my questions are;
    - is Bitpim (and associated Windows drivers) OK to use as a phonebook
    backup and restore?
    - can I use my internet cable as the connect for Bitpim?

    Thanks for any help.
Sprint customer since 5/2004-I have been fairly satisfied with Sprint
    service.

From my own experience, if windows can find your phone after loading the
drivers, then you will be fine.
Make a backup of your phone's address book before making changes.
That way you should be able to restore it to virgin condition if the
    software fails.

Actually, if you can use your phone teathered to your laptop, the drivers
    are installed.

Yes, to both answers. In saying that though, I've found that the most recent
versions of BitPim will not work for my Sanyo 5300. Last version to work for
my phone model is V 7.15. Your model might work with the most recent version
.... 7.29. If it doesn't, then you need to see if you can download an older
    version.
