roadside assistance

I'm thinking about getting Sprint roadside assistance.

I have two phones on my plan. Would roadside assistance cover both phones
at $4/mo, or would I have to pay $8 to cover both phones?

Is Sprint roadside assistance any better than some auto clubs that I see
advertised?

I think you have to set it up on each phone. So $8/month for both.

As for whether it's better... hmmm... Allowed towing distance is a bit
less (I think AAA is like up to 5 miles, and Roadside Assistance is like
3 miles, but I'm guessing on that). HOWEVER, Roadside Assistance covers
you as long as you have your SprintPCS phone with you, no matter which
car is involved. AAA and others I think are limited to designated cars.

I also think Sprint's Roadside Assistance has a usage limit on it.

AAA is dedicated to specific DRIVERS, no matter what the car is being driven
or ridden in. I use my AAA to rescue my broken down company cars when I am
traveling on business.

So, that would be $48 for one or $96 for two per year. AAA for two is
$77. I think I will stay with AAA. Isn't RA just Sprint PCS reselling
AAA? Why pay more for the same service?

Sprint PCS is reselling AAA, and it makes sense cost-wise if you put RA
on one account at $48 per year (less than tha $77 yearly membership to
AAA), but for two, yeah you might as well go directly to AAA for that.

No kidding! The first time I used AAA after being a member for years, I got
a nasty letter from the home office telling me I needed to start taking
better care of my car so it wouldn't break down so much!

There's an exception to that now, though.

Sprint PCS recently issued a Press Release that "enhanced" Roadside
Rescue is now being implemented. That means that a call to #ROAD on
your SPCS phone, and they'll be able to determine where you are (IF you
have the "Location" function turned on, as signified by that little
crosshair icon with NO slash through it).

That can be very useful on a highway where you can't remember the last
mile marker you saw.

AAA for one person is $51, for two is $77. So Ra is less expensive for
one. Since the "location" info. is sent to AAA for RA members, might it
be "always on" so that Sprint PCS phones not on RA calling directly in
to AAA from Sprint PCS covered areas would also have their location sent
to AAA? AAA might like it so they can service more of their members
faster. If it cuts their costs and makes their members happier, AAA
might be willing to pay Sprint PCS for the always on feature.

Ahh, you're absolutely right. So with that, Sprint RA definitely has
the advantage. Sort of like Onstar on a budget.

For yours truly, AAA offers much more, especially when on the AAA Plus
membership. Not only for extended roadside service -
http://www.aaacarolinas.com/Members/roadservice.htm, but for getting
discounts at movie theaters, hotels / motels, and a lot of other services
out there.

It costs me about $87 for 3 people (IIRC), and I save at least that much a
year, with the discounts offered by using the card.

SPCS offers a good service with the Roadside option, but it doesn't beat the
perks offered for the AAA plus plan.

Maybe. If AAA wants to license it for their own use. I have no
knowledge of such inter-company relationships.
