    Hi,

Strangely, BOTH of my Sanyo 8200s started having a problem charging
this past week. The phone quickly switches between charging and not
charging. It feels like I can apply pressure to the power jack when
it's plugged in to the phone to keep it charging. I'm not convinced I
can do this consistently, so I may be imagining this effect.

It seems VERY odd to me that BOTH my phones would start having the same
problem at the same time. Regardless of the fact that I bought them at
the same time, the odds of them having this same problem at the same
time are ridiculously low. It makes me wonder whether there's some sort
    of network problem.

I have this problem with both of the AC chargers AND my car charger.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

    Thanks,
    PB

I had a similar problem with two hand drill batteries going bad within three
days of each other. Like you, reasoning dictated that shouldn't have
happened. An electrical service center verified the charger had gone bad,
probably from a power surge. Once the charger was bad, it fried one of the
batteries by holding a short for an extended period while I thought it was
    charging.

I'd recommend a 'batteries unlimited' store that can measure both chargers
    and batteries.

I had a garage door opener that kept frying from power surges. Finally a
repair guy told me the brand of garage door opener I was buying had NO power
surge protection. That's why they burned out every 14 to 18 months. I bought
a <$10 plug-in power surge protector for the garage opener; didn't lose
another until I sold the house nine years later.

I'd also suggest a polarity check on the electric plug where you plug in the
charger. I wouldn't have the refrigerator and my cell phone charger on the
    same circuit.

    Re: Sanyo 8200 charging issues

    Hi,

That's a very good point... Right now, I have two car chargers and two
AC chargers. I wonder if one of them is bad and that's what's causing
    these problems.

Now, the question is - do I take the phones in to a SprintPCS store to
have them replaced under warranty (with a refurbished phone) or should
I just go to Costco and get them replaced under the Costco satisfaction
    plan (brand new phone)?

    Thanks,
    PB

If it were me, I'd go to one of the 'universal battery supply stores', tell
them my problem and ask what they would charge to test all four.

At minimum wage rates for your spare time, it should save at least $5 in
travel costs and nuisance to have one place test all.

    Re: Sanyo 8200 charging issues

It turns out that it's a fairly common problem for the 8200s to have
problems charging with the circular charger. They replaced my charger
with a slot shaped charging outlet and it works fine.

Does anyone know what the difference between the two slots is wrt
charging? Why do some chargers plug into one slot and others use
    the other?

A friend has a Santo RL-7300 with the same problem. It stopped charging
from the pin-plug and still charges fine using the rectangular plug.

    Re: Sanyo 8200 charging issues

In the past, each manufacturer had a differently-shaped data/power port
and Sprint had to stock separate home and car chargers for every mfr. I
think Sprint is trying to get all its manufacturers to use a common
charging plug - the packaging for the home and car chargers says "for
phone using a Standardized Charging Connector."

In my household, this means I can use the same round-plugged charger for
my Samsung and my wife's Sanyo. But you can still buy (at least from
Sanyo, if not Sprint) a rectangular-plugged charger for a Sanyo.
